Can you tell us a little about it?
I always love learning new Newspeak words.

4. The talking heads have introduced this newspeak word as a condensation of ...
Edited on Sat Aug-14-10 12:49 PM by Billy Burnett
.. "the appearance of xxxxx". It could be the "optics" a conflict of interest, or the "optics" of an event. Or the "optics" of their own pre and re-spin.

It's the media reporting (spinning) what they project as the spin the public will extract from their report (spin).

2. They've decided to focus on how things "look" as opposed to how things "are"
They would rather call Michelle Marie Antoinette than go over Obama's string of accomplishments.

5. Chris Matthews started spewing that one right after Pres. Obama was inaugurated
Not sure he started it, but I never heard it used prior to President Obama taking office. Our mainstream media is disgusting.

6. Didn't Maurren Dowd Use That Word in Her Column Trashing Michelle Obama
for going to Spain?

So now the rest of the "news media" is taking their cues from her? God help us....

10. I try to observe the condensing and consolidating nature of Newspeak.

I try to look at the form of their presentation, as well as the sponsors who bring this horseshit to us, as it relates to the content.

12. Yes, I am a connoisseur of the fine art of bullshit. I do post production.
A good book on this topic is Thom Hartmann's "Cracking The Code"

http://www.thomhartmann.com/thom/books

From the Inside Flap

As you read deeply in this book, you'll see things you hadn't realized were there--in everything from advertising to political rants. You'll learn the three ways people absorb information and how to appeal to each to get your message across, the kinds of words to use when trying to sway people and the kinds to avoid. why politics is all about stories and how knowing what those stories are will help you understand and connect with your audience, and much more.
Whether you're a politician, an activist, a volunteer, or a concerned citizen, you'll develop a strong sense for how to reach into that part of the collective human psyche where we truly do have the power to create a new world.
