Obama boasts of most 'progressive' political triumphs in decades

President Obama told a Hollywood fundraiser Monday night that he and congressional Democrats have passed the most progressive legislation in decades.

"We have been able to deliver the most progressive legislative agenda -- one that helps working families -- not just in one generation, maybe two, maybe three," Obama said.

Obama was joined by a number of lawmakers and celebrities at an event for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) that raised $1 million.

Obama is hitting the campaign trail hard this week before he goes on vacation to Martha's Vineyard, boasting of his administration's accomplishments and accusing Republicans of trying to return to the policies of President George W. Bush.

"This is exactly when you want to be president," Obama said. "This is why I ran, because we have the opportunity to shape history for the better."

The sad part is that conservative nutjobs are doing a better job at drawing parallels between Alinsky tactics and Obama's style than the left is. And much of the left who do get it still have this red scare mentality about keeping it a secret. I don't believe that makes sense anymore.

5. Sadly, he may be right

The previous two chances were Clinton and Carter. You'd have to go back to LBJ to find a roughly progressive president. Clinton dove right so fast it made your head spin. Carter wasn't there long enough to accomplish much and he basically fought the Washington insiders the whole time he was there. He never got to nominate a SC judge. The bars pretty low. A "generation" is usually considered about 15 years so he's basically saying that in 30 -45 years which takes us back to 1970 or so. He's right, he's the most progressive president since we wandered into conservative hell of Reagan/Bush. Hell of an accomplishment huh? He's started fewer wars than either Clinton or Bush I and II.

Sad day when a president's claim is that he's better than Bush.

The bar is not just "pretty low", it's submerged -- buried in the dirt. He can't even resurrect the provisions of Glass-Steagall that worked well for 60 years in his "financial reform". I don't think it's progressive at all to say "well, that deregulation didn't work out as planned, so we just better be conservative and go back to what worked."

8. Mid-Term Campaign Speak 101 - Pretend Progressive == Get Re/Elected

But when elected always, ALWAYS act Right (or center-right) and then wonder why the base gets demoralized during re-election season and so start pretending to be progressive again to win them back. Any questions?

All democrats know that to get elected they must pretend to be progressives. But once elected it is time for them to get paid by corporations and so they sell their votes to special interests. But when campaign season begins again just start acting progressive again and hope noone notices your record...or bring up weak sauce efforts that can hopefully be passed as progressve and hope noone digs deep to see it wasnt progressive at all -- e.g. Healthcare reform passage is a progressive idea but its details show that a lot of it benefits special interests not hte people....in other words, anyone could have passed it but it takes guts to do something for the people and have something meaningful such as Single Payer or at least the compromised Public OPtion....nope.

Betcha' this just won't be the perfect time to roll back tax cuts for anybody - especially the wealthiest corporations or individuals in the USofA. Bet those growing deficits and borrowed cash from China left to be figured out by our "children and grandchildren" won't matter.
If I'm wrong, great, but I have serious doubts that this was anything more than one of those campaign lies, er promises.

is a major progressive achievement despite the inability of some to recognize that fact.

10. Obama is well-schooled in the "buzzwords" to use. But scratch deeper

and we can see that it's more corporate-protection as he and Congress usurp and promote what would traditionally be R policies.

Keep looking for the "winners" of these policies--big Pharma, insurance corporations, banks, investment corporations. The gap between rich and poor is WIDENING, not closing. If it were closing, then that would be progressive.
