Michelle Obama, Laura Bush to appear together at Shanksville memorial

In their first joint appearance of the Obama administration, First Lady Michelle Obama and former first lady Laura Bush will commemorate the 9th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks at a memorial service in Shanksville, Pa., where United Flight 93 crashed, the White House said today.

Bush and Obama will be keynote speakers at the event, alongside Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell (D) and other officials.

"I am proud to be a part of the ceremony and public gathering in Shanksville on September 11 to commemorate the courageous acts of those on board Flight 93," Bush said in a statement released earlier this month announcing her participation. "We must never forget the brave sacrifice of these extraordinary men and women."
