South Dakota house candidate's bad driving record (repub)
Edited on Fri Aug-27-10 09:53 AM by catgirl
This local news station did background checks on all the candidates from the state. This is what they found:

Keloland News:

Nearly 100 miles per hour; that's how fast Republican U.S. House candidate Kristi Noem was driving when she was picked up earlier this year for speeding. But that's not Noem's only ticket.

KELOLAND News checked the records for all five candidates for U.S. House and Governor; Noem has the longest list of violations, including 20 speeding tickets, three stop sign violations, two seat belt violations, and no driver's license. Noem also has six court notices for failure to appear and two arrest warrants.

-snip-

But Noem has broken the law dozens of times. According to court papers obtained by KELOLAND News, Noem's most recent speeding ticket was earlier this year when she was pulled over for driving 94 miles per hour on the interstate.

This will certainly help Stephanie Herseth Sandlin in her tough re-election battle.

3. Their driving indicates their lack of concern for the safety of themselves and others.
They just don't care about the consequences.

4. Speeding
She should be like the other SD politicians (Daschle) and just ignore paying her taxes.

6. At least Daschle never put anyone's life in danger
You people are a real trip, every time a Republican does something wrong, you bring up a Democrat.

7. I watched the report on the gubernatorial candidate's driving, both parties' candidates had records.
I don't think it's a big deal.

Until someone blows through another stop sign and kills someone again, this isn't going to be an issue.

8. The democrat had ONE speeding ticket
Edited on Wed Sep-01-10 06:39 AM by catgirl
The republican had MANY speeding tickets, failed to pay for some of them and had TWO warrants out for her arrest.
A big difference, don't ya think? And THEN she claims that she's been working hard to be a good influence on young
people. Her latest ticket was just this year.

She's obviously a poor candidate and hopefully this information will stay on the radar. It does bring to mind another
republican SD politician who plowed into a motorcyclist and killed him after blowing off a red light.

Nice try. (No big deal, my ass).

9. Read what I wrote, then read this link:
Driving Records Hit Campaign http://www.argusleader.com/article/20100901/NEWS/9010313

Like I said, the candidates for the GUBERNATORIAL RACE both had tickets: Dennis Daugaard (R) = 12 tickets, Scott Heidepreim (D) = 17 tickets.

So, no I don't think traffic tickets are a big deal in this election.

10. Did they have arrest warrants out on them?

The republican candidate who is referred to in the OP, did have arrest warrants out for her. She failed to pay
some of her fines. You don't get warrants out for you simply by overlooking a payment. In other words, she
is a poor candidate for office.

11. Speeding ticket is nothing more than money making scams
In the most recent issue of "Costco connection", there is an article about speeding tickets. Basically, a traffic officer brings average $ 200,000 to the city and Auto insurance companies pocket extra $12 billion per year from these "increase premium" after speeding tickets. The bottom line, fight every traffic ticket.

I can certainly see how you can easily speed in the states like South Dakota.

13. Just heard about the bad driver Noem on NPR Weekend Edition Sunday
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=129662772

I gotta say...what is it with South Dakota and crappy Republican politician drivers? I mean why did Bill Janklow get only 100 days in jail for running a stop sign and killing a motorcyclist? And to clarify the misconception, Herseth Sandlin didn't get a ticket herself; it was her chief of staff (who HS later suspended). Dang...the Republican getting 20 speeding tickets since '89 (one per year?) That's "moral values" to you right there...if Noem runs on a limited government platform, one wonders if she'd even defund the state dept of motor vehicles?
