An aide to Sarah Palin confirmed Tuesday that the former Alaska governor would headline an Iowa state Republican Party event in September.

Palin will speak at the state GOP’s Ronald Reagan dinner on Sept. 17. The event is entitled “A Salute to Freedom.”

It was first reported on Monday by the Iowa Republican Party, though Palin’s camp would not initially confirm her speaking engagement in the first-in-the-nation Iowa.
If Palin does run for president in 2012, the speech will mark one of the first tests of Palin’s brand in Iowa.
Palin has not yet issued a statement on why she chose to speak at the event, but Iowa GOP Chairman Matt Strawn said the state party is “pleased that Gov. Palin is traveling to Iowa to join the battle to return principled, conservative leadership to Iowa.”
