Reagan was actually elected. Twice. And with Electro-fraud machines, even that is no longer necessary. Not to mention a corporate media that may be getting even worse if Comca$t succeeds in silencing the three hours a day of "sane" news coverage that we currently have.

The only reason Obama won in 2008 is because massive turnout was enough to override the electronic fraud. Between the Afghanistan escalation, the bait and switch on health care reform, and the Geithner/Summers disaster, if the next election was held today, I wouldn't feel very good about his chances. It would take a complete reversal of all three and probably a few more miracles to duplicate the type of turnout he got last year. He's got three years to make it happen, but it's not looking great at the moment.

A. Her odds of winning are lower than that of almost every other Republican, and
B. The damage she would cause as President is not significantly greater than that of any other Republican.

We do not know what the world will be like in 2012.

A world where Palin gets the nomination is a world more favorable to Palin than the world today.

Hence Palin's chance of becoming President (an outcome to be avoided at all costs) is much higher in a political climate where she could get the nomination in the first place.

So if a genie asked me if I wanted Palin to be the 2012 nominee I would have to say no. The wish has "ironic horror comic-book ending" written all over it.
