The Democrats are truly in danger of losing Congress and a lot of governorships. They have been relying it seems on the adage that all politics is local and are counting on the traditional get out the vote campaign to survive the upcoming elections. But, the fact is that the Republicans (thanks to the fascist Tea Party) have the same kind of enthusiasm that the Democrats had in 2008. If the Democrats do not begin taking some chances, I think this election is going to be a disaster.
And where in the world are the progressives? I thought it was a complete humiliation that the major rally on the day of MLK's dream speech featured Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin. Why aren't progressive organizations trying to mobilize people not necessarily for the Democrats but to continue to push Americans to the left? Though Obama is not very progressive, he's still one of the most progressive presidents since FDR. If we allow him and the Dems to go down in flames, we risk another Reagan era, with a return to sexism, racism, homophobia, discrimination against the poor, and unbridled greed.
I just don't understand why the Democrat Party and various progressive groups are not trying to give a forceful response to the right wing. The mood in this country is probably not a lot different than the mood that brought Hitler to power.
