"Good optics"
Good optics

(AP)

The theory behind launching peace talks without a clear path to their conclusion -- even the talks' schedule remains a bit hazy -- has always been that they could take on a momentum and logic of their own, and that the engagement itself would push the leaders toward a settlement whose general outlines are widely known.

That theory gives the enterprise a seat-of-the-pants feeling, but has also raised a little optimism from the trained pessimists who watch Middle East politics, and today's optics -- a handshake between Abbas and Netanyahu, and strong comments from an Israeli leader, however skeptical he may be of his partner -- were just what the White House has been waiting a long time for.

If you aren't sure who is in the pic - "Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, U.S. President Barack Obama, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Jordan's King Abdullah II (L-R) walk through Cross Hall on their way to the East Room to give a joint statement on the Middle East peace talks."

2. King Abdullah II's Father, King Hussein of Jordan, Became a True Man of Peace
He was in the US, undergoing chemotherapy for cancer, when he came to the Wye Plantation talks at the behest of President Clinton. He apparently was quite stern in his rebuke of the participants and got them to at least agree to start agreeing.

I'm glad to see his son follow in his footsteps.

3. Its looks like one of those movie scenes where everything is slowed down as they walk...
...and funky music is playing in the background.

5. That picture is classic
I can tell you right now, if these talks turn into anything significant, that will be the picture we see in every textbook in 10 years.
