Factory gauge rises in August, exceeds analysts’ projection
Manufacturing activity expanded at a faster pace than forecast in August as factories added workers and cranked up production.

The Institute for Supply Management’s factory index rose to a three-month high of 56.3 from 55.5 in July, the Tempe, Ariz.-based group said Wednesday. The figure had been projected to drop to 52.8, according to the median forecast in a Bloomberg News survey. Readings greater than 50 signal growth.

Stocks rallied as U.S. and China manufacturing figures tempered concern the global economic recovery will wane without more government stimulus. 1. Good news! Thank you, President Obama!!

3. Got my fingers crossed
We've been disappointed before, it pops up only to decline. The best news about this one was that it doesn't seem to be connected to any "cash for clunkers" or other specific stimulus program. Just hope it wasn't some "back to school" driven thang (although I'm not sure why that would affect factory production).
