Dems Hope That Delaware Republicans Follow Alaska's Lead

"We have a chance to win this race friends!"

Those recent words from the Tea Party Express in an email to supporters following Delaware's Republican primary might strike fear in the hearts of Republicans, but they are giving Democrats a sliver of hope that this fall won't be a complete wipeout.

On Sept. 14, Delaware Republicans will head to the polls to choose between Rep. Mike Castle and tea party darling Christine O'Donnell. The winner will face Democrat Chris Coons in November for the open seat, currently held by a Democrat. Castle has long been considered the frontrunner and clear November favorite, so much so that there's almost no polling between O'Donnell and Coons. But Democrats say that they think she's easy to beat -- and Republicans in D.C. privately admit that her candidacy is deeply flawed and that they are rooting for Castle.

But according to the Tea Party Express, they've been made aware of "some shockingly good news" about the race. The group released yesterday a Tea Party Express commissioned a poll of GOP voters that shows 43.7% Castle-38% O'Donnell, suggesting the result means Castle "is on the verge of seeing his political career come to an end."

O'Donnell, who has met with Sarah Palin but hasn't gotten the former governor's endorsement (yet), hasn't had the best week. Someone from a firm formerly affiliated with her campaign questioned Castle's sexuality in a web video. O'Donnell has since distanced herself from the remark and called it "tacky." A scuffle ensued between operatives for the two camps. Then the Huffington Post uncovered her talking smack about not just premarital sex, but masturbation. And she had a brutal radio interview with Dan Gaffney, who backed her candidacy four years ago but recently accused her of distorting facts. Castle refuses to debate her.

1. Castle Refusing To Debate Her Is A Bad Move For Him

That will actually only legitimize her MORE in the eyes of the Teabaggers and really rile them up.

If O'Donnell pulls this off, and it looks like she's got a good shot, this could actually become a pretty safe Dem seat that was supposed to be a sure loss. I really doubt a tea bagger nut could win a general election in Delaware.

2. Despite Castle being a better than average GOPer I'd love for the tea partier to win
because I think Dems would win.

3. Now is the time to be sexist.
Surely all those Republican men have one thing on their mind when they see a pretty woman? And all reason flies out the window they see one. Whoops! Difficult for all reason to fly out the window for a Republican when they didn't have it before. So it should be a piece of cake for them to be distracted enough to vote for her.

Now the campaign just needs to make sure any depiction of her doesn't turn the men off. There are some photos that are not appealing.

4. That would really be too good to be true
and I am afraid that people in De, even Rs, have too much sense for it. From the little that I know, Castle is rather decent. But I would HATE to see him in Biden's seat.

Can you believe what the Senate will become if some of these clown will get elected? :puke:

5. Could be another notch in Palin's gun if she endorses her.

7. Yes.
Razzie did a poll back at the beginning of Aug, that had Castle ahead of Coons by double digits (if that were the match up) but Coons ahead of O'Donnell by double digits (if that was the match up).

The more we learn about O'Donnell the better chances Coons has. IMO.
