1. Huh?
Link?

That is perhaps the wierdest thing I've ever heard? Perhaps somebody needs to remind that 75% group what will happen if they don't vote?

4. Contessa Brewer was talking to Richard Wolfe about the WSJ/NBC poll.
Edited on Tue Sep-07-10 11:45 AM by Pirate Smile
She ended the segment with that number - which was a jaw-dropper.

edit - it was actually when Contessa was talking to Mark Murray - not Richard Wolfe. She talked to him following Richard.

to the point:

But right now, according to the poll, the interest level in the midterms is down among Democrats, African-Americans and younger Americans compared to 2006, when the Democratic Party won control of both the House and Senate.

If Democrats lose control of Congress, Hart argues, it’s “because they didn’t vote.”

9. A) These people aren't reported in likely voter models.
B) If they really do approve, they can be brought out to vote with encouragement. We've got an enormous warchest and a superior GOTV machine. Couple that with an image of what will happen to the agenda they approve of if Republicans win and I think our demise is grossly exaggerated.

12. Republicans are "only" successful when they can fund their GOTV handsomely*
And this year, their funds are slim. Thanks, somewhat, to RNC Chair Michael Steele. So, I agree with you.

The Dems in my county already have their campaign running.

*Only successful, because their policies stink.

29. The fun thing is they have to hire people and companies to do their GOTV.
A side effect of that is their GOTV consists of some volunteers, but a large amount of robocalling and telemarketing, which isn't especially effective.

Good Democratic candidates have a large army of volunteers who'll phone-bank and canvass, and give a more personal and more passionate touch to the campaign that GOP doesn't have.

Nobody thought a lot of the people the Obama campaign needed to caucus or vote would actually do it. He needs to pull that rabbit out of a hat again.

13. So does that mean when Dems lose...
...that we'll get to blame the apologists, and the cheerleaders, and the "clap louder" and the "I support our president" crowd? Based off of this reasoning, it's those of us who don't approve of how things are going that nonetheless are still planning on getting out and voting.

Not that I actually believe this poll, but it does show how anything and everything can be twisted when it comes to the blame game.

14. Uhh, no, exactly the opposite.
It's the downers, the assholes, the people that refuse to give Obama any credit that are doing their best to depress people who otherwise would be out there voting. And I've seen plenty of the people you're talking about right here on DU and on other, wood-based websites say that they're NOT getting out and voting or worse.

So it's glad to see you're willing to turn reality on its head, but you're to blame now and you'll continue to be to blame if the worst case scenario comes to pass.

....and besides if I did want anyone's lips on my ass I can assure you my tastes would be far more discriminating.

And maybe all of your time would be better off finding people unlike myself (as I've stated countless times) who don't plan to vote democratic across the board anyway, despite their disgust. Or do you think your precious time is more valuable insisting that people not only vote democratic (as I intend to) but do it with a happy smile on our faces and and a vigorous clapping session. I realize it's more important to you that nobody have their poor feelings hurt by actual criticism and that you would prefer an echo chamber like the republicans had in the 90's with Bush than to actually hold anyone's feet to the fire to actual enact better policies.

Have fun in your zero sum game and don't let the pendulum swinging back and forth hit you in the ass. Or better yet...do.

21. Constant dire forecasts combined with Obama and others giving some uplifting speeches
together could change that. The former because it removes the possibility of what could have been overconfidence about winning (as we had in the last two elections).

I suspect that nearer to the election, we will hear more well written sound bites speaking of what is at risk.

According to most polls, Democrats and Republicans are tied on the registered vote generic ballot. It is the likely voter pool that shifts the advantage to the Republicans. The undecided pool consists of many Democratic voters who can and must be brought home to vote in November.

We need a massive Democratic mobilization effort starting now. We can decisively close the likely voter gap.
