New New York Voting System....it's interesting.
You really can't make a mistake unless you can't read. New York State is using scanners. We write on a ballot and put through a scanner. I love New York Board of Elections. They use Youtube...bless them.

It has a zooming feature and it's good for invalids. It's great. I can see some complaints. But I like it. I won't be able to use it...but meh. I'm using overseas ballot.

http://www.votethenewwayny.com/en/default.aspx ----for new Yorkers...I should post this in the New York section---which I will. They have meetings as well to teach people how to use it, up close in specific locations. http://www.votethenewwayny.com/en/community-outreach/calendar.aspx

But I do wonder if anyone believes that we could experience voter fraud through this new system?

1. Most of the rest of the country has been using scanner ballots for years
We used them in Minnesota going back at least 15 years ago, maybe more. We also had them in Massachusetts, and now that I live in Illinois, we have them there too.

Congratulations, New York, for entering the 21st century ;)

2. Yeah..most in New York preferred the older version in order to prohibit voter fraud.
However, they were notorious for breaking down, and/or ballots getting stuck; so I prefer this version for now.

4. I used to vote on the lever machines in NYC back in the 60s
They were pretty awful even back then. And any precinct worker could easily rig them. I'm not sure why people thought they were safer.

6. I have no clue.
And I've complained about a few ED/AD tables where poll workers have made mistakes (since I'm a poll worker as well) and nothing much gets done about it. The machines are awful---one time two of ours broke down for the whole day---people were filling out paper ballots that worried me since the tables had questionable poll workers----or the standards of the poll workers were questionable. They don't adhere to the new rules mainly because they've been doing the same work for the past 30 or so years.

3. Good in that you have ballots to count, if election is close enough.
Whether the 'mother' computer hacking in problems to alter results have been solved is another question. Hopefully, it has!

8. This is good in that it's a scanner and I think we might get a reciept.
I hope we get one anyway. I like the idea of a scan because they have the paper ballots in effect just in case the comp gets hacked as you say.

5. No, I think we will have massive ELECTION fraud with this system.
And I hope bedbugs infest them and they have to be tossed in the river.

9. I protested this "method" of voting
when I first used it last year. I even filed a complaint with the local county election board and was ignored...

I don't like this way, because it can lead to voter fraud.

10. The original way we had it led to voter fraud too.
Edited on Tue Sep-07-10 07:12 PM by vaberella
and they were a nightmare to deal with. The levers would break or stall. The machines would stop operating. People made mistakes when they stayed over until midnight counting ballots before their sent out to be recounted. Lots of voters would not have their voted counted because and I've seen it myself, some ed/ad poll workers would be too careless with them. So it would seem nothing is full proof to protect from voter fraud. I just see here we could make it more dependable since the paper ballots would still be in effect even if the machines missed on something.

11. So it marks my ballot after I mark it?
Or rather, it makes a new ballot and transfers my choices to it? What happens if the ink runs out? What if it is hacked to fill in races I didn't vote in? For instance, let's say I don't vote in the race for dogcatcher, could the machine be programmed to add a few filled in ovals to help out the other party?
