Instead of hyping up and hyperventillating about the Quran-burning, why doesn't the press just stop
covering it?

Giving these people this kind of publicity not only plays right into their hands, it also shoves it right in the faces of the people who will be most offended and likely to inflict retribution.

The press consistently behaves as if they are slaves to events - that they have absolutely no control over what they cover or how much they cover it. They also like to pretend that their editorial decisions don't affect and drive the story when, in fact, their coverage often influences the story itself to a great degree.

Case and point: the perplexed hand-wringing about why so many Americans think that the President is a Muslim and why so many voters are ignorant about issues. They cover these stories as if they had absolutely nothing to do with the dumbing down of the public. In reality, one of the primary reasons that the public is so ignorant is that the media has failed miserably at their job - which is to inform their readers and viewers.

And now we are watching them breathlessly and sanctimoniously cover this nutcase minister, repeating over and over that the sight of burning Qurans will have a devastating impact on our troops. But guess how the sight of burning Qurans will be spread throughout the world? Of course - by the media who will flock to the scene to get the best footage and then show it over and over and over and over and over again.

I'm in no way in favor of or calling for censorship. But the press should use some of what's left of its better judgment and just stop hyping this story. I suspect that if this minister and his flock realize that their 15 minutes of fame came and went before they even did the deed and that their stunt won't get the coverage they hoped it will that, praise glory, the Lord will come to them and tell them not to go through with it.

1. Their "better judgment" died
I can't imagine how a story like this would make it past Managing Editor Walter Cronkite. But having to fill up 24 hours of cable news has everyone doing it, even Rachel. And no matter how she frames the story and reports on it, she ends up doing what her better judgment told her not to, that is, report on the story.

I think she should have gone with: "There's a story about some lunatics in Florida that's making the rounds on other news outlets. We have an hour of newsworthy material, and they didn't make the grade."

3. Exactly - Cause The Press Is Fueling The Fire And.......
if any Americans get harmed because of this stupid stunt - the Press will be accomplices.

Any parent or significant other of any military in harms way should be incensed about this stunt. I can't believe that the Press isn't interviewing these people and have them say how this stunt is endangering the lives of our military. Instead this pastor that's organizing this is all over the place.
