http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/09/09/the-president-supports-his-party/President Obama is making another financial investment in the battle to hold the Democratic majority, sending $4.5 million to help the party’s candidates for House, Senate and governor.
Party officials said Thursday that the president directed the money to be sent from his campaign account, Obama for America, which had been set aside for legal expenses after the last election. There was, of course, no recount or challenge at the end of the 2008 race, so the money has been sitting in the campaign account.
While there has been considerable angst among Democratic incumbents and candidates about whether they should appear alongside Mr. Obama in this difficult midterm election, there has been no reluctance to accept the president’s financial contributions.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and the Democratic National Committee each received $1.5 million in the transfer announced on Thursday. The contributions are on top of the $20 million cash commitment the D.N.C. has already made to party races this year.
