TRENDING: Biden says Bush deserves 'a lot of credit'
Source: CNN

(CNN) - While President Obama took a measured tone in referencing his predecessor during the Oval Office address on Iraq last month, Vice President Biden appeared to go considerably further Thursday in his praise of former President Bush.

"I've never known a time when you didn't care about what happened. We disagreed on policy. You deserve a lot of credit, Mr. President," Biden, looking straight into the camera, told Bush during an appearance on The Colbert Report Wednesday night.

"Mr. President, thank you," Biden also said. "You've honored these guys. You've honored these women. You've honored these troops."

The comments surpassed those of Obama, who, in his address announcing the end of combat missions in Iraq, thanked the former president for supporting the troops but refrained from crediting him for his role in conducting the war – specifically his implementation of the surge strategy in 2007 that is widely credited with improving security conditions in the country.

6. I had to watch the video to understand the context - reading it is different than seeing it in tone

may want to watch the video before you take what is said as a compliment to Bush's actions or his policies - it is really subtle

16. No impeachments or prosecutions were bad enough. I never expected
our Executive Branch to tke over heading the Bush Legacy Project, though.

Sending him to Haiti with Clinton, praising his love of country, his death and dismemberment dealing "support" of our troops and his love of country, and now this.

Another thing in election season that's really going to GOTV of an already disappointed base.

Seriously, :wtf:

We worked and donated our hearts out for a man who ran against Bush, even though Bush was not even eligible to run. Change. Hope. And now, that man and his VP tell us how good Bush was?

Because there's no possible middle ground between a contentious attack and praise.

37. Colbert asked him a message for Bush. What was he supposed to say?
Edited on Thu Sep-09-10 07:58 PM by Mass
That Bush was an idiot? That the surge worked ? That the war was a good idea? (which is what the RW wanted him and Obama to say, not the idiot part, the rest).

All he said is that he cared for the troops. We may disagree, but it was fairly banal in the video, and CNN makes a big story out of it.

38. Wtf was he suppose to say? He was on national tv with soldiers in the audience that just got back
from Iraq.

Did you really expect him to say what he really felt?

I was actually impressed that Joe Biden didn't say what he shouldn't - yet here he is getting bashed for it.
