1. Republicans and some Democrats would have you believe that
the rich shouldn't have to pay any taxes because they are too valuable.

2. ...and the meme that the rich may most of the taxes has convinced a lot of people...
even Democrats themselves. It's a lie, but very compelling because we have a progressive income tax. Most people don't understand that a regressive income tax or even a flat tax would hurt the poor and working or middle-income folks.
