"Stupid people get elected when smart people don't vote"

Saw this on a facebook page - it was someone's response about Jan Brewer...but....

I think it says it all! It belongs on a bumpersticker.

(ps - I let her know I was stealing her line)

12. But sometimes it would be nice to have someone to vote for.
Oh, wait a minute - most of those in charge of our two party system figured out a long time ago that it would be rather quaint to let us voters have a real democracy. Not modern enough, or rewarding enough for the Big Corporations.

15. Non-Vote is a Vote.
There is no such thing as not voting. A non-vote is a vote. By not voting, you are allowing another person to vote for you. It's mind boggling that people don't understand this. We get what we deserve. Don't like the people in office...too bad You voted (didn't vote) for them. If people took this responsibility seriously, we wouldn't (shouldn't) need term limits. Term limits are for sore losers. They're candidates were outvoted and so they want thwart the process. Incumbants can be voted out of office if the electorate chooses so. On the other hand, if the electorate wants to keep they're representatives in office, there should be no term limit. This choice has always been in the hands of the people. Don't like Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid...the people of California and Nevada did and it is they,re constitutional the right to elect and reelect they're federal, state and local representatives as often as they choose. No one has the right to take this away by imposing term limits. Voting is the one tool we can use to keep our politicians in line. They do understand this because no matter how long they've been in office, how much money they have, corporate backing, etc.; it can all come to an end by a mere push of a button in the voting booth. November elections will be the proof of this (unfortunately for Democrates). In order for the system to work we need to excerise our responsibility and not leave it up to others.

16. Stupid people get elected...
because smart people are too smart to run for office.

We're stuck with stupid vs. stupid. Get used to it. Or run for office yourself.

17. Not really.

Smart people do get elected. Besides, if only stupid people run for office and become the elected officials who have the power to impact the status of everyone, including smart people, how exactly are they the stupid ones?

Apathy, which is what the OP is about, is understandable, albeit with adverse consequences.

21. Stupid people get elected by stupid electorates
That's the bottom line- and the lesson one learns from living in a nation where voting is mandatory.

23. Stupid and/or dangerous people get elected when stupid people vote.
"Stupid people" being people who don't think, who follow like sheep and allow propaganda to dictate their vote; people who allow their emotions to be manipulated, people who allow fear and the need to be in a gang to dictate their vote; people who vote against their best interests out of fear or hatred of "the other," or because "everyone knows or says;" people who don't independently inform themselves on issues and candidates, and vote accordingly.

Everybody should vote. Everybody should vote intelligently and independently of campaign propaganda or group think.
