Supreme Court: Corporations Can Buy Judges

You’ve heard that a recent Supreme Court decision said that corporations can give unlimited funds to politicians.

But did you realize that it said that corporations can give unlimited money to judges?

It didn't say that the government can't limit direct contributions to candidates. Thus, while Citizens United was a bad decision on numerous levels, to be accurate, it held that the federal government can't limit corporations from engaging in electioneering communications and did not allow "unlimited" contributions directly to politicians. How important that distinction remains is an open question, of course. Also, it should be noted that the Court held in 2009 in the Massey case that the acceptance of contributions by a judicial candidate can, in some circumstances, require that judge to recuse himself/herself from hearing a case involving the contributor.

4. USA: Capitalism Gone Wild.

Seriously, there's got to be a limit to this thing. Or ultimately it will go the way of Comunism. Too much of one thing with no checks and balances is always doomed. Money to the law makers is a sure sign we're fucked.
