If Dems do win this race then add Vermont to a list that includes FL, CT, HA & MN as states that polls indicate Dems will take GOP governorships:
Just days after emerging as the winner of an extremely close Democratic primary, Peter Shumlin is running slightly ahead of Republican Lieutenant Governor Brian Dubie in Vermont’s gubernatorial race.
The latest Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey shows Shumlin, the state Senate president pro tempore, picking up 49% of the vote, while Dubie draws support from 46%. Two percent (2%) prefer some other candidate, and three percent (3%) are undecided.
This survey was conducted four days after the announcement of Shumlin’s recount victory.
In mid-June, Shumlin was one of the weaker Democratic candidates out of four matched against Dubie. At that time, Dubie led Shumlin 55% to 36%. In the first Rasmussen Reports survey of the race in March, Dubie held a similar 51% to 33% lead over Shumlin.
This race is classified as a Toss-Up on the Rasmussen Reports Election 2010 Gubernatorial Scorecard.
Dubie draws support from 87% of Republicans, while Shumlin is backed by 83% of Democrats. Dubie currently holds a 10-point lead over Shumlin among voters not affiliated with either major political party.
