Senators voting on the Nelson amendment right now. Tabled NOW - 54 - 45
Edited on Tue Dec-08-09 05:50 PM by Mass
Right now, vote on the motion to Table it. Mostly along party line. I heard Nelson, Dorgan, and Bayh voting NO and Snowe voting AYE. (still 6 dems at least voted against tabling it).

Roll call will be here.

Buh-bye.

Now, let's see what happens in conference ... and if "moderates" such as Nelson will back reform w/out it.

3. Now voting on another attempt from McCain to send back the bill to Committee
(another stalling attempt)! Will not pass, but still losing a long time on that.

4. Buh-bye Stupak!!!
Tabling's a high-risk maneuver in these sorts of bills - for one, it's considered discourteous in the Senate (in other words, it's a big slap in the face to a Senator to table his amendment like this), and for another thing, if this vote failed, the only way for this amendment to go away would be unanimous consent, which the GOP and conservadems would withhold for days until they extracted concessions.

Obviously, they knew they had the votes for this, which means that nothing Stupak-like is likely to see the light of day...

A nice little victory, if I say so myself.

15. Casey is the Only Democrat Who Should be on That List
as he has always been anti-abortion as was his father. I don't like it but I can respect his views because I know him to be consistent.

The rest can pound salt...
