Simple, pointed, frightening.

Follow-up: For-profit health care leaves 50 million without. Do you want 50 million americans without education?

1. I fear it is in inevitable ...
I NEVER in my life would think this innane free market crap would get the traction it has, but boy, the wingers just chirp it and chirp it, and the MSM won't call it for the crap it is ...

I think however, it just cannot be implemented on a broad scale with education ... These idiots truly believe all you gotta do is sprinkle some free market on things and they magically thrive (not that most businesses fail, but hey, again, why screw up republican talking points with reality) ...

But, people just do not get how big the public school system is ... What little bit for profit programs have taken root, they can't even BEGIN to do the larger work of the public school system. But, it will open up the public coffers for plunder and screw things up further, thus proving their point, to them and the MSM ...

2. How is this post any different than Palin screaming about death panels?
They both have the same amount of truth to them, which is to say none.

7. Health insurance corporations absolutely DO have death panels.
Edited on Mon Sep-27-10 04:17 PM by Doctor_J
US Health care is the worst in the world because the corporations are bound BY LAW to protect profits at the expense of actual patient care. For-profit education will be identical.

3. LOL. As if for profit education is a new thing.
Education in the US has been failing for decades, yet we have folks deeply entranced in the idea that we must do nothing to change it.

should we give more of it to the Insurance companies, because the current system doesn't work?

32. The takeover of the hospital system in the late 80's, early 90's by for profit corps(es)...
has led to skyrocketing costs, lower quality of care, and miserable health care workers.

You are spot on that we will look back in 20 years and see how education has suffered the same fate.

9. No one is arguing that it needs to be changed, but turning it into a for profit coroporation .......
is not the answer.

How about smaller classrooms, upgrading schools to bring them into the 21st century, getting rid of textbooks that require stickers about how evolution is just a "theory".

12. Education has always been "for profit corporation"----note to ALL Universities in America.
So that's not a surprise. However Charter schools are not for profit. They just have standardized exams to get the kids into the school which at times can be exclusionary. But then district zoning of schools causes just as many problems.

18. They're for profit corporations ...........
Charter schools are run by CEOs, whose job is to run companies that are designed to make money. Many of these charter schools are often part of larger conglomerates that bring in tens of millions of public dollars that they in turn funnel to other parts of their company that are fully profitable, like consulting and the so called experts that design their curriculum.

It's amazing how misinformed some people are about charter schools and their profitability.

Not to mention the outrageous salaries that these CEOs pay themselves and their executives while they continually cut teachers pay in the name of "offering incentives to reward the good ones", which has been proven to not work.

Edited on Mon Sep-27-10 08:50 PM by vaberella
So yeah it does refute what you said. You say they're run by corporations, same post I posted say that it's organized by teachers and what not. I'm not saying that some charters may not be run by corps, but they're getting government money because charters are free. Additionally you haven't even provided links to back up the claims that even the California Board of Ed denounced.

23. Define "Free". And they are run by corporations ..........
They're set up by citizens, but run by CEOs of corporations.

You should really educate yourself about them, and not just on websites. Go out and do real research, you'll be shocked to find out how much money gets funneled from tax payers and into the pockets of people with no real skills in running schools.

27. I have plenty of facts, but before coming out against them I did the research ...............
what i discovered, I didn't find on the internet. I went to schools, spoke with teachers, people who work and run charter schools, and I have a friend who is making tons of money as a consultant for a charter schools corporation.

The school is the loss leader for business, all the money is made on the back end. Lease agreements, consultants, pay for executives, text books, and a whole slew of other kickbacks.

28. Huh, sounds like the corrupt nonsense found in NYC public schools.
Strict regulations will need to be put in place----and I'm sure for the ones the government is putting in place there will be. Same needs to be done in public schools. I still see nothing wrong over the same old same old. As for how you gathered your information. Unless you provide solid facts with evidence---it's just word of mouth.
