Ok ... follow me here for just a second....
The latest ABC/WaPo poll shows that 79% of McCain voters say they're certain to vote compared to 64% of Obama voters. I'll throw in the usual "one poll isn't worth much" that we all know but I don't think that number is too far off of reality.
Now, it SOUNDS like a big gap .... but remember .... Barack Obama beat John McCain by 10 million votes. So if we do the math....
79% of McCain voters (59,934,814) is 47,348,503
64% of Obama voters (69,456,897) is 44,452,414
That's a difference of 2,896,089 ... almost 3 million votes.
To put that into perspective, George Bush beat John Kerry in 2004 by 3,012,166 votes. (give or take, depending on the accuracy of the Ohio's ballots heh.)
And to FURTHER put it into perspective, while most of us turned our attention to Stewart, Colbert, Ozzy and the National Mall, Organizing for America volunteers were out canvassing Saturday. Calling, knocking on doors and using the single most effective method to pursade voters .... conversation.
The total number of contacts have been counted and the number is a mind blowing
3.1 million people - on Saturday ALONE. That's not even counting the numbers of potential voters contacted over the last few weeks.
The GOP may very well take the House Tuesday night .... but they wont do it without a fight! Anyone who thinks the 2008 election was JUST about Barack Obama, they're fooling themselves. We ARE the ones we've been waiting for ..... contrary to what you may have heard, we are STILL HERE!!!!! And we are.....
