I love my mother but seriously, she has no idea how I got the political bug. She is politically illiterate, registered republican but will vote for decent democrats like Tim Holden of PA-17.

So while I was campaigning today in Wilmington, I got a call from my mother. Since I was near a park I thought perhaps I should take a 10 minute breather and chat with my mother. I reminded her election day was November 2nd and asked if I could get her to vote for Joe Sestak. I know she'll vote for Holden.

I mentioned about the rally today at the riverfront and told her there was a rumor that Palin was suppose to be there. Then my mother said something so profound it shocked me because seriously, I didn't think my mother really knew much about politics.

"Oh I like that Sarah Palin, she's kinda fun to watch. (*I gasp thinking my mother is crossing over to the tea party but then she continues on....). "I heard she's running for president but I think it's just silly. I mean she didn't even finish her job she had up there in Alaska"

*gasp*

These are the type of people Palin is going to have to win over if she think she wants to be president. People like my mother who are moderates, have voted republicans and are smart enough to recognize that if you can't finish the job you were elected to do you probably aren't qualified to be president.

My mom is awesome.

Now if only I can get her and my step-dad to vote for Joe Sestak.

1. Does your Mom vote in Republican Primaries or just the regular general elections?

Just curious because, of course, Sarah winning the Republican nomination and actually winning a general election are two completely different things.

3. Did she vote in the Primary in 2008? A lot of people did for the first time.

I'm just asking because I wondered if she was involved enough to do that. It used to be much more rare.

Sarah Palin provides many Democrats with a sense of relief that their Republican relatives aren't completely insane because they tell them that, of course, they would never vote for her for President. Wooh. I guess there is some limit to the Republican insanity (of some). (That sounds really confusing. I hope you get the gist.)

not sure where you're going with this but um, she's a regular voter just not political astute.

5. I was asking about primaries vs GE.

Lots of people always vote. Most don't bother to vote in primaries or caucuses. Palin could win the Republican nomination. She could never win the general election.

thank god!!! and will vote for Brown in CA where she lives and other dems. She is a Kennedy democrat and voted for Obama because Carolyn Kennedy was for him...

I doubt she will vote for pot though...that movie they made in the 60's convinced all older people pot is like LSD. No convincing her otherwise...

11. My soon to be 84 year old mother

Hopefully is going to make the right choice tomorrow. My brother who is taking care of her wants her to vote Repuke. She likes to watch reruns of All in the Family. I pointed out one day that Edith was a Dem and Archie a Repuke, and if she can live with her conscience, then vote Repuke. She is more like Edith in her feelings, so I hope she really thinks about it. I know voting should mean a lot more than that, and I try and tell her the bad things Repukes want for her and the US in general. I think it's getting through. I just hope she does the right thing.
