between democratic lack of cohesion and republican obstructionism and senate rule xxii, it's been like pulling teeth to get any progress at all through congress.
whatever happens, the situation will only get worse, even if republicans pick up only a few seats here and there. hence, gridlock.
if republicans manage to gain control of the house, they get to set the agenda. the senate can prevent any crap from passing, and worse comes to worse, obama can veto. but, of course, they're not interested in creating law at this point, they're interested in making obama a one-term president. so instead of laws that help america or even their limited bunch of "constituents", they'll instead serve up investigations and wedge issues and generally abuse their power for the sole aim of embarassing democrats and setting up a platform for the republican presidential run against obama.
so, again, nothing consequential will get accomplished, but on top of that, we'll have rediculous distractions and issues that have nothing to do with what really should be front and center. get ready for the flag-burning or willie horton issue du jour. impeachment hearings on obama's birth certificate or michelle's travels. whatever, anything to minimize, disrespect, and undercut obama at a time when the country needs him. at a time when we've got troops in harm's way, no less.
so, what will it be? gridlock and farce, or just gridlock?
