Feel good stats in North Carolina
This was published in my city's paper today and may county (Guilford) has broken early voting records. Guess who is leading? Go ahead Guess!
http://www.news-record.com/content/2010/11/01/article/early_voting_by_45000_sets_record
"More than 45,000 Guilford County residents voted early last month, by far the most ever in a midterm election."

Did you guess right? Don't waste your time with comments because they tend to be ignorant, redneck racists with too much time on their hands.

1. Good news! Which district is it?
I'll put a little start beside it on my list ... and will watch for the results.

5. The problem with these numbers is that...
...Democrats, even in many southern states, often have huge registration advantages.

There really is no guarantee that all these registered Democrats are voting for the good side - especially in a state like North Carolina.

I'm really hopeful that these early voting trends mean something positive, but looking at the generic ballot polling is very disturbing.

6. Did you see this
"Of those who took advantage of the early voting period, which began Oct. 14 and ended Saturday, more than 23,000 were registered Democrats while nearly 16,000 were Republicans and nearly 6,000 were unaffiliated."

Of course there are going to be some rethug votes in that 23,000, just like there are going to be some Dems votes in that 6,000 unaffiliated. Add it up and the rethugs are not KICKING OUR ASS. They may still win but we are not giving them anything, they gotta take it!

7. angee_is_mad, you are not alone.
Of course, your actual real numbers don't correspond with the crappy crystal balls of the media.

But, I'm with you, and if people want say we are too optimisitc, then so be it.

This election is not a done deal no matter how much we are told it is.

Thank you for your report and the news!

:) K&R.

8. Actually, as a fellow resident of Greensboro...
...I would suggest that people *do* read the comments in the N&R online, if only to observe the pathology of rage and frustration revealed by them, due to the fact that the half-black-guy is STILL President of the US. :-)

Makes it easier to recognize the mentally ill when you run into them in your daily life.

Do not need to read it. Racism is like porn, I know it when I see it!

11. I know, I can only glance through the online N&R comments once...
...every two or three weeks, just to see if anyone new is commenting or if it is the same fifteen or twenty lunatics. :-)

I've got a good feeling, too -- I think it's even gonna be close between Marshall and Burr, I certainly hope Marshall can eke that one out.

12. don't know about Marshall
if the AA and 1st time voters are substantial and they vote straight dem she has a chance.
As far as the same 15 or twenty commenters, I think it is more like 5 or ten. And the local blogosphere is atrocious. Even the so-call progressive blogger(s) is pretty pitiful.

13. I'm in Guilford County too!!!
Anyone doing any GOTV at the HQ tomorrow? I'm down as one of the drivers for those needing rides, so if you know of anyone who needs a ride to the polls I'll be on the J.O.B. tomorrow!

14. BTW Angee,
I'm the white guy around Greensboro known for going into black owned beauty and barber shops and passing out voter guides. Before one stop absentee voting showed up, I registered a lot of voters in those spots. I've got lots of good theories about how we can attract the A-A vote in large numbers, regardless of city. I don't know how to use private mail here(seems to me I've seen reference to the fact that there is private email here) but if you know how, shoot me a message.

Thanks!

17. I'm going on my lunch break. I went on Saturday, and took three (3)
2nd time voters with me, and the damned polling place was closed. I want to lodge a formal complaint, because the hours posted were from 10a-1p on Saturday. We got there around 12:30, because one of them had to work until noon. I can't tell you how pissed I am with the City of High Point.

My disappointment was largely because I know without some prodding, these folks won't go back, and I feel like I've harrassed them enough. They've promised to meet me after work today (fingers crossed). The husband and wife are in their mid 50's, and cast their vote ever, in 2008. Their nephew is late 20's, and his first vote was also cast in '08.
