Coons' campaign worried about low turnout
(are dems taking this for granted because of the polls?)

Democrat Chris Coons voted early this morning at Highlands Park Elementary in Wilmington, along with his wife Annie and three children Maggie, Michael and Jack.

In the exact same spot U.S. Rep. Mike Castle spoke to cameras on primary day, Coons took only a few questions after casting his ballot before setting off on a cross-state tour to greet voters at polling places.

He said at the time he was confident that voters would turn out to support him today, adding that 1,000 volunteers across the three counties were participating in his get out the vote drive.

But a message of confidence isn’t coming from his campaign. At about noon, Coons’ campaign manager Christy Gleason sent an e-mail to supporters warning of low turnout in New Castle and Kent counties.

“The data we're seeing is showing lower turnout in New Castle and Kent counties than we're comfortable with,” she wrote in the e-mail. “This election is too important to sit back and see how it turns out. We need your vote, and we need you to get your friends out to vote too

2. I think it is meant to motivate Dems to come out and vote.
I wouldn't take it that seriously.

3. I'm Sure That . . .

. . . the low turnout is on the enemy side too. This race is over. Not a problem.

5. Yep... and most of this kind of "news" on election day is just noise.
It happens every election. Flip back and forth between left/right political sites and you'll see long lists of anecdotal evidence that this is a great year for them. "I'm usually one of the few people at the polls when I vote at 10:00am... but today there was a line around the building! Looking at their faces I could tell that they were all voting for my guy!"

Just noise. Noise intended to boost turnout (either with enthusiasm or panic), so go ahead and boost... but don't put too much stock in it (good or bad).

Remember when we used to get exit polling early in the afternoon? "What? We're up in GA by 2 pts? Nobody expected us to come within 10! We must be having a great year! But wait! How could we be down in NJ at the same time?" Only to lose GA by about ten and win NJ just as expected.

It's a game. Let them play it.
