The tone of tonight is nothing like 1994.
That's why these silly parallels are false heuristics that prognosticators rely on in order to cover elections.

I was in Austin in 1994 at the Convention Center where they counted the ballots. The College Repubs. were racing about, pointing plastic forks in the air, chanting "stick a fork in them, they're done!"

No, the atmosphere is no where near as similar. The GOP will make gains, but I don't foresee any plastic forks in the picture, nor spoons, nor knives...

1. It looks like we've definitely got the Senate, so we'll break even as far as I'm concerned
I'm breaking out the champagne.

3. In 1994, the GOP had been out of power in Congress for decades. Now, it's only been 4 years
And they aren't getting the Senate back, either.

4. The economy is not going to be dramatically different in one year
when the campaigns have to start up again. The Rethugs know that they will be blamed just as surely as the Dems. are now being blamed.

5. Agreed. One of my biggest disappointments is hearing boner for
speaker of the house.

It could be worse though.

7. He is a joke and even some Repubs know he is stupid. It may be fun to see him make an ass out of
himself.

6. Actually, it's far worse of a stomping
since Republicans based on their performance could and should have been relegated to the fringe for a generation.

9. It feels REALLY bad here in IL to me anyway. It looks like we went from blue to red
Edited on Tue Nov-02-10 10:52 PM by mucifer
Our President visited numerous times to endorse the dems here and they look like they lost. (I guess they are still counting but it looks bad).

Just you guys wait til the msm starts talking about how Obama's own state went red.

Hmmmm maybe I'm move back to California.
