WASHINGTON — Several minority candidates rode the Republican surge on Tuesday, as an Indian-American woman was elected governor of South Carolina and voters sent the first black Republican to Congress since 2003.

In South Carolina, Nikki Haley won a closer-than-expected governor's race, and Tim Scott was easily elected to the House. Scott will be the first black Republican congressman from South Carolina since Reconstruction.

On the Democratic side, Terri Sewell became the first black woman elected to Congress in Alabama. (Number23 edit: :bounce:)

...Marco Rubio, a Republican Cuban-American, won a Senate seat in Florida. He will replace the retiring Mel Martinez, another conservative Cuban."

I honestly don't know whether to be happy, sad, or terribly confused.

When will these folks of color in the GOP learn that they are being played? How many times does it take for them to see the RNC's nasty racism before they get a clue?

Well, the joke is on them because Republicans of color don't figure in the fight towards "taking back America". What will they say when their fellow RW'ers continue to threaten the life of the POTUS? Do they even care that a portion of their political party belongs to separatist or militia groups? Can they sleep at night knowing that their party has passed legislation restricting the freedoms of other people of color (SB 1070, for example)?

Frankly, I don't even know how the people of color of the RNC can turn a blind eye towards the antics of Palin, Bachmann,Tancredo, Barbour and the rest of their ilk. Palin, Barbour and Tancredo don't even make it a secret of their dislike for minorities, let alone others in their party.

Instead of stating the obvious (that the tea party movement is at its heart a racist movement based on the principles of white supremacy and fear) they just go "no, it's a good movement with a FEW BAD APPLES."

That "few bad apples" argument gets alot of traction from people who want to deny the stench of rot within their midst.

EDIT: By the way, I think it would be appropriate to donate to his primary opponent in 2012. On the political spectrum, any opponent would have to be more sane than this guy who is a nut, and it would get rid of this guy who helps racist Repukes wipe the stench off.
