Republicans are not happy about winning the House.

The House is for governing and creating laws. That is antithesis to everything they believe in. The House is the last thing they want to win. They want the Senate so they can control the Supreme Court. They want the Presidency so they can control the Democrats. The House is like a plastic toy from a Cracker Jack box.

They are useless in the House because they cannot govern. They can only block governing. That is what they exist for - block government.

1. Yes, this is definitely a Pyrrhic victory for them. The anti-government party now has to govern.
It will be a very entertaining 2 years. Can you imagine the laws they will bring to the floor? OMG.

27. Bingo.
I await the cries of "RINOOOOOOO" and "BEEEETRAAAAYYYERRRRRR" the first time Paul or Angle or Toomey does something they don't agree with. The Party of No cannot be the Party of No any longer. They wanted it, they got it, now they have to use it or be destroyed as well.

23. Yes, right now they are!
When Reality hits them that they can no longer blame (lie) about the Democratic party doing nothing they are going to have to act. Boener is a weak leader, he has proven over and over he doesn't know how to get a simple plan together. Cantor is worthless.

What the American people will see is they never had a plan. Well except the obvious one Tax Cuts.....but no one on the Right had the balls to ask why the Tax Cuts during Juniors terms didn't create jobs.....oh well...

3. This also gives them a bully pulpit...
...to spew their lies, fearmongering and other assorted nonsense.

The economy will continue to tank. The housing market will continue to crash, as the largest
waves of foreclosures is set to hit in late 2010. Food prices will rise. Unemployment will
not improve.

Republicans will be able to kick and scream when their "good ideas" make it out of the House, but
get killed in the Senate or the White House. They'll blame the poor economy on Democrats and
insist that if only their "good ideas" were implemented--America could be saved.

And if that's not bad enough. Health-care costs will continue to rise. We'll hear story after
story about companies requiring employees to pay more, or companies dropping coverage. The
Democrats will be blamed as the Republicans scream, "SEE! We told you government-run healthcare
was bad!"

The perfect storm---which could usher in a 2012 sweep and win of the White House.

:scared:

7. I Kicked This Thread Because Of Your Comments.....
I agree with most of what you said - but on the economy side I'm thinking that what the Dems and Obama have done in the past two years will continue to take hold and the numbers will improve. The trillion dollars of cash that the corps have been sitting on - they'll start spending and begin hiring again. They waited purposely for the Repugs to take back some control to do this. As unemployment begins to lower and the economy starts to rebound - the Repugs will take credit for that as well.

8. This is why we need to DEMAND some key legislation from the lame duck session...
To show how some decent legislation that works for the American people can be made to pass a Democratic Party controlled house, can go through the Senate that in 2011 is not necessarily bound by filibuster rules, and get signed in to law by Obama. If just one or two really decent bills get passed that do a lot of good for Americans this way, it will serve as a message that either the Republicans in the House better pass something close to being bipartisan, or with these bills being successful cited by Democrats, they potentially could lose big time in 2012. The key is getting these passed, and having some that can really help us all later.

5. Not without the Senate to convict them...
Edited on Wed Nov-03-10 09:37 AM by cascadiance
And if Dems vote to convict either Obama and Biden, then they will be FRICKIN' HISTORY and I think the Dems in the Senate know that!

If the Republicans in the house go down this path, what they might do is give license for a Democratic House in 2013 to go back and retroactively impeach some from the Bush administration or perhaps even a supreme court justice or two (which might produce more worth).

Edited on Wed Nov-03-10 09:54 AM by unblock
they will feed red meat to their constituents knowing full well it will never become law.

they will force democrats into awkward votes.

they will conduct hearings to manufacture scandals for democrats.

just because they're not interested in governing and won't create laws doesn't mean they can't abuse the powers for their own gain.

14. No, I think they're happy about it.
This is a perfect position for them to be in: On one hand, they can block anything they want. On the other, they have the ability to pass legislation through the House, but have no prayer of getting anything signed into law. They can continue to play the obstructionist game, and by continually voting for inane tax-cut bills that get shot down in the Senate, they can spin the situation as 'the Democrats refusing to help us fix the economy.'

The economy has to improve by 2012. If it doesn't, the Republicans sweep us out. Fair? No. Realistic? Yes.

20. Biggest Problem: They are no longer separated from the public
Edited on Wed Nov-03-10 10:16 AM by DetlefK
They can no longer hide from critical questions by fleeing to Fox News.

When you are campaigning, you can say almost anything, because you are just a somebody from somewhere. But imagine you are elected:

You can no longer lie that easily on TV, because you are now in the national spotlight. As Spiderman's uncle said: "With great prestige comes great ridicule."
You can no longer claim, that you don't have the numbers to answer a reporters question.
You can no longer work with the numbers you would like: The stimulus created jobs. Tax Cuts didn't create jobs. That's a historic fact.
You can no longer avoid a politicians responsibility of solving problems.
You can no longer present an unbalanced budget and blame it on "liberal math".

From now on (gasp) you have to make sense!

22. I think you are right...
But they will blame everything on the Democrats for not passing their agenda and, as always, the media will carry their water, no matter how irrational their agenda.

If the economy does not recover, and I doubt that it will, it will be who is the most successful at blaming the other? I would put my money on the Repubs and the media over the Democrats and a one-term President.

The Democrats cannot continue to preach "working together" and "bi-partisanship" and expect to win the next election. They will need a dramatic new initiative.

26. I live in a red state and look forward to the day when people realize just what
the Tea Party is really like. From bits and pieces I've overheard in public, I get the impression that most of the votes they've been getting are coming from, "my taxes are too damned high" sorts of people who actually think electing teabaggers will help.
