Reid: Both Parties Need To Compromise In Senate
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says lawmakers of both parties need to start working together now that Republicans have reduced the Democrats' dominance in the chamber.

Reid said on NBC's "Today" show that he planned to speak Wednesday with Minority Leader Mitch McConnell on ways to "build a consensus and move this country along."

--SNIP
The Nevada Democrat said he has a "good relationship" with McConnell, but he asked the Republicans to be more open to compromise, telling ABC's "Good Morning America" that "just saying no doesn't do the trick."

11. He is saying exactly what he needs to say.
Let the repukes slap him down for trying to do the people's work. They will hang themselves, and we'll let them.

19. No, come on!
the day after a major electoral defeat he should say "fuck them, I'll never speak to any R again, and if McConell wants to reach me he should fax me, I am too old to tweet". That's what he should have said, IMHO at least. It would not be very useful, but at least it would prove his recently questioned manhood.

22. If you ask me, saying what he did speaks volumes for his 'manhood'.
Anybody can bluster and shake their fists, it takes a really secure person to kill them with kindness.

25. I, of course, agree
Reid is a tough old bird, and I am VERY glad he won. Not perfect, but nobody is, me first of all, so I am in no special position to evaluate "perfection" :-)

12. LOL at the Predictable Overreactions

He has to say this. Then, when the Goopers fail to act in response, they can't blame the Dems for not trying. Get it?

16. "Both parties need to compromise" is unideological, political politeness...
Its something that you basically expect politicians to say. Its like getting upset at a pageant contestant for mentioning world peace.

14. No disrespect m Senator Reid but are you hard of hearing.
Did you not hear or understand McConnell and Boehner,
when the said respectively: The goal is to make Obama
a one term President and "This is not the time to compromise>'

Sometimes it is better to hedge when answering or
speaking to the Media. How about, I need some time
to meet with other Senators determine our plans and
approaches.

17. Well...
The only way the right is going to "compromise" is if everything goes "THEIR WAY"! Sorry Harry, but if you don't stand up to these clowns hey will walk all over you. What Harry needs to do is put bill on the floor like extending the tax cuts for those making "UNDER" $250,000 and make the republicans vote! Put it on their shoulders to vote NO in order to get their tax cuts for the rich, or vote to help those who really need it by voting "YES"! Put the blame on the republicans if nothing is done and taxes go UP next year because they could do what was right by helping the middle class!

Now that the ball is in the court, MAKE them show just who it is they are working for, the people, or the corporations and the rich!

26. "Sharron Angle as a GOP backbencher would have done less damage than this guy does in leadership."
Edited on Wed Nov-03-10 11:10 AM by ProSense
This is why a lot of Democrats lost yesterday.

Why do people feel the need to jump on every comment as if it changes everything immediately. It's a comment. Did you want him to be Mitch McConnell and say that he has no plans on working with Republicans and wants to destroy them?

Would saying that help Democrats in 2012?
