Kohl might be retiring.

4. I can't read his mind, but it sounded like encouragement
to his supporters to stay involved.

6. he's encouraging his supporters, not sendign a cryptic message.
i know it's the dream of many here that grayson or russ will defeat obama in a fictional primary... it's just not going to happen.

they're both too smart to make that big a fool of themselves...

7. He will not challenge Kohl because they are friends and he won't challenge
President Obama. I know some of you want to think so but it isn't a reality. He means it's on to the next election which will be better for dems. And it could mean if Kohl doesn't run again he might run for Kohl's seat.

9. My guess - More generic than any of those - he is saying the next battle is 2012

and telling people to move on and work towards it. I would not expect him to disappear. I think in some fashion he will be involved.

Of the choices - The best position I can think of - and there are extremely few Senators I would say this of - is that of Supreme Court Justice. I think he is a Constitutional scholar and his integrity, honesty and intelligence are really not questionable. The question is how many Republicans would confirm him.

I can't see him running for Kohl's seat - being a freshman Senator again, after gaining the seniority he did - would be frustrating. (Lautenberg is proof they don't "bridge" seniority. Lautenberg got a few things because he stepped in to get the Democrats out of a bad situation)

11. He'd make an excellent Justice. He'd be a good DNC Chair, too. n/t

14. Actually he would be an awful DNC chair an hate much of what he is required to do
One of the main things the DNC chair does is to raise money for the party.

Not everything is a secret coded message to his flock.
