2010 Governor Races: GOP had a net gain of only 5--in '94 they netted 12--Dems won gov vote 50-46

GOP picked up Dem governors in: KS, ME, MI, NM, OK, PA, TN, WI, WY, OH, IA
Dem picked up GOP governorships in: CA, HI, VT, and it's looking good that we will win in MN & CT
GOP lost Governorship to independent in R.I. to Chafee who is an Obama supporter.

It will end up being a net gain of 5 Governorships, compared to 12 net gains in 1994

In addition Dems were thought to have tough races in CO, MD, MA & IL--we won the first three by bigger than expected margins and IL is looking good for Dems to retain.


GOVERNOR RACES:
The United States gubernatorial elections were held on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 in 37 states and two territories. Of the 39 elections total to be held, currently 20 seats are held by Democratic incumbents and 19 by Republican incumbents. The Democrats scored a popular vote in the gubernatorial races. Adding up the Democratic Party votes (30,946,996) to the Republican Party votes (28,635,476) and Other party votes (2,707,866) the Democrats recorded 50% of the votes cast, Republicans 46% and Others 4%.<1>

2. Maine went RED! WHY is no one talking about our Tea Party Governor!

We Dems in Maine are depressed! This is horrible and it is the lack of loyalty to the party that did it. Our Dem candidate was a fine candidate. SO depressing. The Independant came close but the chance should never have been taken with the consequences so dire. The Republican Platform in Maine is a Tea Party Manifesto. Sigh...

4. we need to be very concerned about what happened in all but one of the

three way races. In both Maine and Rhode Island we finished third. On the plus side we came quite close in both Ohio and Florida. Had we won either one of those the night would have actually improved our standing population wise with governorships.

while the numbers of states are not horrible, outside of Cali, the Rs got the big states, and in Pa. Oh and Fl the ones that can most be rigged with redistricting ...
