Extending Bush's tax cuts for 2 years is worse than making them permanent
The GOP is going to completely play the Obama admin again.

"White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs reiterated on Thursday that the president will be open to extending the upper-end Bush tax cuts for one or two years as part of a broader compromise with Republicans."
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/11/04/gibbs-obama-will-listen-t_n_778864.html

The GOP will act conciliatory in accepting a two year extension for now because they would just love for the specter of tax increases to come to a head again during the presidential election.

He should deal with them now. Kill them, make them permanent or make only some of them permanent now and take it off the table for the next election.

2. The much more popular word from the Obama admin is: "Compromise"
and lots of people will not go out of their way to vote for that.

6. Here's another one
"The White House said Obama would consider extending Bush-era tax cuts even for upper income Americans for a year or two."

Making Obama a sucker. Why does he fall for this?

7. You aren't quoting Gibbs. You are quoting the Reporter.
Edited on Thu Nov-04-10 01:40 PM by emulatorloo
Gibbs says Obama is open to the idea of a discussion. That is not the same thing as the reporter's spin.

Iwould reproduce Gibb's actual words but I Am on a mobile thingy.

OFF THE MOBILE THINGY on EDIT;

Here are GIBB's words in the article:

"He would be open to having that discussion and open to listening to what the debate is on both sides of that," said Gibbs, during an off-camera gaggle with reporters. "Obviously... making those tax cuts for the upper end permanent is something the president does not believe is a good idea."

<SNIP>

"He is certainly willing to listen to both sides," said Gibbs when press specifically on a one or two-year extension for the tax cuts for the wealthy.

"It is again, November 4. We know that, when this year ends, tax rates are going to go up for the middle class... So if we don't act on the expiring tax cuts by the end of this year, we know what's going to happen... We have both houses coming back and this is an issue that must and has to be dealt with."

===

So Gibbs said Obama will go to a meeting and hear their arguments. THAT'S IT.

12. What you have is a headline that says "Obama Will Listen To GOP Pitch on Extending Tax Cuts For The
Wealthy" and conjecture and speculation.

I'll speculate too then.

GOP: Extend tax cuts for the wealthy.

Obama: Sure, our plan gives a tax cut on everybody up to the first 250,000

GOP; Sorry that is not enough

Obama: Are you guys serious about deficit reduction? Or is that just a bunch of smoke.

And so on.

I could be wrong, so could you. In the meantime call your rep and senator - he's talking about lame duck here.

17. Your speculation hardly counters the AP. If you have a credible source post it...
... otherwise, who cares what your speculation is.

Besides you I mean.

13. He's agreed to have a meeting and listen to their pitch. Do you want him to refuse to have a
meeting?

Just because I agree to listen to some nut's crazy plan does not mean I mean to implement it.
