Shouldn't we, "the American People", Organize to Demand Reform on the Filibuster?????

Shouldn't McConnel and the rest of the Republicans,
AND THE MEDIA, hear from "the American People" on this?
and aren't most of us Americans here?

Can't we start a facebook group or something?
Can't we start making noise about this now?


Because I'd like to do this now....
Not wait for it not to get done,
while we said little beside criticizing
before and after the fact.

I really want to do something constructive
that can help our cause, instead
of battering the Democratic party
some more, as their voices continue to be muffled
by our corporate Republican agenda supporting Media.

A bill has to pass both the House and Senate before the President can sign it. The ONLY reason republicans used the filibuster to stop legislation was because we had solid control of both houses and it was the only way to stop bills that they didn't like.

Now they have solid control of the House. They're perfectly happy to let Senate votes on "bad" bills go through. They vote "no" and lose... then the House republicans vote "no" and win. Dead bill.

Also, I've noticed that when Republicans were increasing the deficits,
deficits didn't matter, but now they do.

So how is this any different?

I'm tired of sitting around waiting till one week before an election
to actually get unified and "do something" as an activist. I want to start
early...and I don't want the only goal to be shitting on the President and
on Democrats. We already have the media to contend with.....so I believe
that organizing early and often is our best weapon....

We should have started to organize for 2012 yesterday. But the prospect of a GOP controlled Senate running roughshod over the best interests of the American people scares me. If they could control the White House, the House, and control the Senate where there is no filibuster, then we will be on the way to a fascist dictatorship with no way to stop it.

than to twist the arms of democrats (many of whom have long records of supporting the filibuster) to change the rules so they can win votes they otherwise couldn't.

It just doesn't sell well. It's far too easy to run ads saying "They didn't listen to you last time... tell 'em again"

19. The reason why it is too late is because even if we could get things passed with 51 votes, the

GOP controlled House would block it. Now that they control the House, they won't let any progressive legislation become law period. The best that we can do now is to try to protect what we have already accomplished in the last two years. And we don't need a filibuster proof Senate to do that.

Changing the filibuster rule would allow the Senate to vote on bills that would die in the House. It would not help actually pass anything we will want to see passed.
