GOProud: Gay Voters Propelled GOP Wins
By Julie Bolcer

ADVOCATE.COM

Gay conservative group GOProud points to exit polls showing that the Republican party captured almost one-third of the gay vote in House races as evidence of a gay affinity for the Tea Party.

GOProud hailed the data as proof of gay voters’ role in helping the Republican party achieve historic gains on the way to its House takeover. By extension, the evidence also suggests that many gay Americans embrace the Tea Party’s limited government message, claims the group.

“According to CNN,” says a statement from GOProud, “31% of self-identified gay voters supported Republican candidates for the U.S. House. This number is a dramatic increase from the 19% GOP House candidates won among gay voters in 2008.”

“The gay left would have you believe that gay conservatives don’t exist,” said GOProud executive director Jimmy LaSalvia. “Now we see that almost a third of self-identified gay voters cast ballots for Republican candidates for Congress in this year’s mid-term. This should be a wake-up call for the out-of-touch so-called leadership of Gay, Inc. in Washington, D.C., which has become little more than a subsidiary of the Democrat Party.”

A GOProud television advertising campaign for Republican House and Senate candidates this year marked the first time a national gay group aired a television ad against Democrats, says the group.

12. I shouldn't criticize other gay people.
But this poll stinks to high heaven for me. A THIRD of all gay Americans voting Republican? No, no, no and no.

There is disatisfacion, ras, in the GLBT community over Obama and the Democrats with addressing the issues that concern us. No action on ENDA, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. The Department of Justice defending DOMA in the courts. And let's face it, a lot of people, not just gay people, are shaking their heads about how DADT repeal has been handled. But I think a vast majority of GLBT Americans voted for the Democrats. On Facebook, for instance, I saw that dynamic of genuine anger and bafflement...but then when Tuesday came around, they...we...voted for the Democrats.

ras, this is GOProud. These are the people who invited Ann Coulter, whom they laughingly referred to as "the right wing Judy Garland" to this big get together last month. Enough said.

17. I too an wondering why this Admin hasn't donemore for the GLBT
Community. I thought it was about "priorities", but now I'm not so sure. The one thing I do know about this situation is that denying any citizen, or group of citizens of this nation 100% Equality is simply wrong.

The whole "gays in the military" thing just bugs the shit out me...I fought side by side, held ground and took ground with many a good man, I know that some of them had to be gay, (back then, things were even worse than pre-DADT!). What we worried about is if you cuold shoot straight under pressure and do the mission, nobody gave a good goddamn about sexual identity in a firefight.

Over time, I've become more passionate about this as I've seen soldiers come home scarred for life, mangled and I know that many coffins in many a field are those of gay and lesbians that gave more for their country than the bastards who sent them there ever did.

Rule #1, we are all human beings and deserve precisely the same rights and privileges as every other human being. These arbitrary rules about not being able to visit a loved one in a hospital is something else that angers me to no end. No one should be denied the love, caring or empathy of another. I broil when I hear about gays/lesbians being denied the opportunity to be with those they love as they are ill or dying. Why is is anyone elses business who holds whose hand as they pass onto the next plane...let those hands be embraced through love.

I'm glad to see to back my friend...and damn proud being a straight guy willing to stand with you as we fight this fight to end the hate and ignorance of people who have forgotten what love and caring is all about....:pals:

this is exactly the same kind of bullshit meme that was floated after the Prop H8 vote in CA. Remember that tired tune? The one that went "Blame the Black Voters"? I didn't buy that one and I'm not buying this bullshit either.

9. I really have to question that 31% , that seems incredibly high
to me. I know of no GLBT'er here, or any of the few gays I know out here voted GOP...and I'm in Nebraska for god's sake.

The issues involved are far too intense for "31%" to vote against any hope they might have for advancing. Just because it's on the net certainly doesn't make it "true". Perhaps 3.1% or .31% would be more likely. Unless someone can come up with absolute proof of this # I'm calling BS.

13. If gay Democrats stayed home, the GOP share would tick up.
In Presidential elections a roughly 75/25 split in the community between Democrats and Republicans is fairly common data in exit polls. An enthusiasm gap with gay Democrats could account for the slightly higher GOP share.

I think it's a mistake for people like the one in the OP to assume gays are suddenly going GOP.

A few demoralized gay liberals is all that's needed to account for that statistic.

Right-except when it comes to things like gay rights, abortion rights, religious rights (if you're Muslim), and any parts of the Constitution they don't like (such as separation of church and state). :eyes:

20. The Tea Party rallies that have taken place in Iowa had all kinds
of anti-gay sentiment present, if you were to look at the signs they were displaying!

Tons of shit like "marriage = one man + one woman".

My guess is that on the average, GLBT tea party rally attendance was about as significant as non-white tea party attendance!

That's why I don't buy that over 30% of GLBT voters voted Repub. because of the "Tea Party Platform of Smaller Government and more freedom..." Bull.
