I Am Sick of Being Told To Be Nice & Not Call the Greedy Racist RW Pigs Bigots
I am sick of being told to try to convince anti-science willfully ignorant people to join our side. I am sick of having fundamentalists shove their insanity down my throat. I am sick of being told gays women, blacks and latinos are second class citizens. I am sick of greedy bastards denying the poor healthcare and basic needs. Wake-up- these people will never "come to our side". We need to stand up for what's right and stop placating those who would deny equality TO ALL AMERICANS.

2. I Have No Problem Discussing Issues As Long As Actual Facts Are Used
Who said to call some one with a more conservative view on AN ISSUE an Idiot? I am talking about the dillusional teaparty pigs, the ones who stomp on and punch tiny women. The ones who think its ok to torture. NOTHING will change a RW wacko extremist NOTHING, give it up. They will NEVER vote democrat, even when its in their own best interest.

I absolutely refuse to listen to anyone (family included) who; calls Obama a muslin, says global warming is a hoax, being gay is a choice, blacks are lazy, tax breaks for the rich stimulate the economy, healthcare for all will bankrupt the country, women have no control over their own bodies...............

51. True, but the likelihood of the people the OP is talking about
ever voting Democratic is likely nil.

I may not agree with conservatives generally, but some can think logically and we are able to have courteous, even reasoned discussions. The people the OP is talking about are not people who have basic courtesy or social skills. It is difficult to find common ground with them - sometimes one can't even find a common planet.

Once name-calling enters the discussion, the one doing it loses all credibility.

That was knowledge from back in the day when substance mattered more than it does now though.

4. I'd Say Telling Someone That Calls the President the "N" Word They Are a Bigot
is not "name calling" its a fact. Telling someone who is out and out lying that you don't want to hear their racist opinion is not name calling.

6. I agree.
But you and I both know it doesn't end there. Like never. Maybe for you, maybe for me, but in general? No.

Also, if someone calls the President the n-word then they were name-calling. To ascribe the perfectly fitting label of "bigot" to them or "bigoted" to their remarks is appropriate. One just can't get too trigger happy with the labels.

8. Can we have a conversation as friends.I
I can understand your anger and frustration.

No one bothers to explain why racist and bigot can create
more problems than it solves.

This is a real conundrum. Are there racists...yes. But the
great majority of people in the US are not racists or bigots.
Therefore calling people in general racists has no sting
no power. At one time it did. That was a time when racism
was more prevalent.

This country so needs someone to explain from both sides.

Sometimes what we might call racism is really people exhibiting
old embedded resentments from an earlier time.We all have
to try to understand each other if the country is ever
coming together for the good of the nation. In the past in
order to try to in someway makeup for wrongs done to one
side, the other side had to give something up. It these
situations are not handled skillfully, resentment can fester.

Politicians can flame the resentment or they can continuously
work to make each side as whole as possible. My point is
very often the people on each side are good decent people.
If a Politician does and says things (use code) to stir
up resentment on both sides--that Politician should be taken
to the woodshed and publicly flogged. As citizens and activists
we should try every chance we get to assure each side we are
with them and against Politicians I just described.
The people in both groups are decent people. Yes. there
are tiny pockets of overt racists scattered across the country.
Ignore them, but we must not broadbrush everyone as a racists.
The truth is most of the working class people who voted Republican
should be Democrats. We need to work to bring everyone together.
Of course, we cannot ignore overt racism. That must be publicly
condemned by the Leadrship of Both Political Parties.

I just want us to try to understand all sides while assuring
people we understand their feelings. In the end, we all
prosper if we can get everyone on the same page. We
will never get everyone but that does not mean we stop trying.

18. You Are from Ohio, Too and You Can't Deny the Racism Here
Bullying is rampant in Ohio, kids get it from their parents and the rigid bigottry. I hear the "n" word all the time as well the ridiculous anti-muslim sentiment. Gay bashing is also pretty popular. Hate and ignorance kills, sugar coating it and not speaking out against it says it is ok. I pledge to speak up each time I hear hate speech.

In case you missed story on NPR - just google bullying in ohio

16. I Have Been Included In Groups Called "Those People"
I have seen friends faces when they heard bigotted words spewing from someone that they thought were their friends. I have personally heard friends/family members saying hateful things about groups other friends/family members identify with at weddings and holidays. I have been at fire and/medic calls with other female & black co-workers who felt threatened by words and confederate flags while there to help. I grew up hearing what was and what was not "acceptable" lines of work for a girls (or minorities) to consider. I have watched unqualified white men be chosen time and time again for jobs because they "knew someone" then whine about "reverse discrimination". I hear the awful things said about our president's beautiful family. It hits me directly, I feel for them and I've had enough.

20. Not tiny pockets of overt racists -- large swaths of them.
Here in Texas I have cut off more than one person who uses the N-word or other bigoted words.

One guy informed me that ALL those "illegal Messicans" don't want to learn English.

So that means that he surveyed 12 million people, and did it in Spanish, and asked them if they wanted to learn English? And NOT ONE of them wanted to learn English?

Boy, is he a real Carl Friedrich Gauss of the statistical world (SARCASM).

45. Uhm, what?
"But the great majority of people in the US are not racists or bigots."

That makes no sense, every day people are discriminated against for their sex, their gender, their religion, their skin color, their sexual partners, etc.. I would say that *vast* majority of the US still exhibits racism and/or bigotry on a daily basis.

"Sometimes what we might call racism is really people exhibiting old embedded resentments from an earlier time."

...because that IS racism.

Oh, those neo-nazis aren't racists, they're really just people exhibiting old embedded resentments from an earlier time.

See how absurd that sounds?

As the bigots deny that "nothing is going on" and that "they don't see it", the lies become more outrageous as they try to cover up their wrongdoing. Racists, especially, are in denial mode all the time.

because I have friends and family who are the ones making you sick, that they are also sick of being labeled with the labels you give them. While once upon a time they tried to avoid the labels, they simply don't care anymore. You are not listening to them and they are not listening to you. So it's an even score. They have an advantage though in that they are way more organized and disciplined than us at this time. We need to grow a thicker skin and set our priorities. Neither side is going to win every battle, it's winning the war that counts.

my RW cousin who is always spewing hate about the moral-less liberals has once again moved back home with his wife and kids after living with his current girlfriend for a while. Another gem on that side of the family told his daughter who was back from college and asked him why they never lived near any black people "cause they are fun".- almost puked up thanksgiving dinner and said "they just don't like the same kind of neighborhood as we do". What kind is that hatefully white-racist?

43. The Republicans and Teatards had better enjoy their victory while they can, because it won't last...
Anyone who saw the unemployment report for October knows what I'm talking about. In just this one month alone, Obama and his administration created over 150,000 private sector jobs. No longer will the payrolls be skewed by census worker layoffs. Now, the monthly job reports will show the true picture of where America is headed, and what the fate of the Republicans and the Tea Party will be in 2012. I am certain that in the next year or so, there is going to be an explosion in jobs, and the stubborn unemployment rate will finally be plummeting. And this will help get Liberals and Democrats the payback they need for the next election. If the jobs picture continues to go in the direction it is going now, then there could very well be a Republican apocalypse in 2012. And I think there will be. The teabaggers and Republicans may have the upper hand at the moment, but right now, an enormous, unprecedented force is growing among Democrats, Liberals, and Independents, and in two years, both groups will be powerless to stop it. They will be begging for mercy, and in November, Obama and the Democrats will completely obliterate them. The entire Tea Party movement will collapse, and the Republican Party as we know it will be gone for good. Obama just needs to continue what he has been doing, and if he does, this will happen, and the people--the silent majority-- will finally triumph.

If you look back at history, the president whose party loses in the midterm election almost always wins the second term. It happened with both Reagan and Clinton.
