37. I'm not so sure. I can see the far-reaching consequences of a
Bush impeachment, especially since the chances of his being found to be guilty
are high. The whole world thinks of him as a war-criminal, not to mention
anything else.

Consequences: the Repubs. would most likely have had second thoughts about
continuing with their other crimes, such as bribery and corruption, since
they see that they get punished for them.

The way things are now, they are feeling cocky and behaving in like manner,
since they see that they can and do get away with anything.

The Democrats could have been really leading the nation towards the important
goals on their agenda - for a change - instead of being stymied all the time
by blockages and filibusters.

Does the above seem reasonable to you?

She's less popular than Cheney when he was in office, and that is saying a lot.

You want a real fighter for the causes of the left in the White House?

Tough as nails, Nancy Pelosi is. Cunning, as opposed to brilliant, like Barack Obama. Might be exactly what we need.

Besides, I could care less what that weasel Richardson has to say on any given topic.

Of course this has nothing to do with my comment about Pelosi, but more to do with your need to go after me.

How puerile......

32. No she's not. Here's her breakdown .......
Unfavorable: 37%
Favorable: 11%

Now I admit her favorability rating is low, but her unfavorable rating isn't that high. Combined that is only 48%. In today's polarized political environment she never go below 30% in her unfavorable rating.

But that leaves the other 52% to win over. In reality, she would only have to get above 40% favorables to be considered a serious contender.

30. Yup - And when Gorge said, "Your either with us or against us"
Nancy said, you can count me in Mr. unelected president with a small "p", and when those pesky liberals find out what a big fat Lire you are, you can count on me to "not" put impeachment on the table; and after we get done sweeping the war dead, refugees, and bankrupt American economy under the rug, all those misguided and upset followers will start to blame the Democratic Party for your criminal incompetence and therefor preserve predator dominance, conservative lunacy / corporate hegemony and the Republican Party.

And as if actions never speak louder than words, some people will want Nancy Pelosi to be President.
Too bad..., aside from a few IQ points, the same could be said about Sarah Palin; by fairytale duelers of a different persuasion of-course...

20. Strange, that.
When I was last active at DU, Pelosi's name was dirt here. Even though her '06-'08 House of Representatives voted against the President's wishes more than any other in history, even though her House Dems were a consistently unified bloc, and even though her House passed significantly stronger legislation than the Senate did (in many cases, passing good legislation while the Senate remained stalled), popular perception of her here seemed to be that Pelosi was a lame-ass sellout.

It's nice to see that her reputation here has been mostly rehabilitated, but strange as well. Is the Pelosi support a pseudo-nostalgic factor of her recent fall from power, or did DU as a group finally start noticing that she was actually a pretty damn good Speaker at some point in the past few years?

25. Pelosi has just been demonized all over the country by the VRWC. Some voters ...
... are so dumb they thought it was a conspiracy that kept the California Congressional Representative off their local ballots in Lower East Boondocks, Red State -- because they wanted to vote against her by God, because she was the Evil Speaker of the House.

Nancy Pelosi has just joined the rarified company of SOS Hillary Clinton -- so smeared and trashed by the RW that she's unelectable outside her own district.

OTT she's a fine candidate for POTUS.

27. And then you'd turn against her when she didn't fix the world
in a couple of months... ...Do we not get it that the president is just one person and we all need to get out there and fix at least one thing ourselves every day? The only way the country is going to get better is if each and every one of us is involved and each and every one of us starts to show some appreciation of reality and some resilience...Keep pushing our government but also realize its limitations...For better or worse our country's economy is now tied to the world economy and we have to work with that. I believe that's what Obama is trying to do right now - he's trying to make us competitive again. I like Pelosi too but this thing where people on this site seem to think that someone else for president would be some kind of instant fix is just unrealistic and totally unhelpful. (Sorry if I sound harsh - don't mean to - I just get frustrated)

33. K&R your reply, this should be an OP
You said it perfectly. The idea of getting someone else in there who will instantly fix everything that's been wrong over the last 30 years or so, just isn't going to happen. If you took Pelosi, out of the equation of your reply, this could be a really awesome OP.

35. Liberals are not upset with Obama over his inability to not get things done ........
It's the fact that he capitulates without a fight.

I can handle losing a battle, but at least put up a fight.

Here's a classic example of how a president can wield party while being in the minority.

Remember when our party first took control of congress and sent Bush a war funding bill with a date for withdraw attached to it?
Well, anyway, Bush ended up vetoing the bill and sending it back to Congress and held a press conference to tell the public he wanted "a clean bill" without a draw-down date.

He put the blame on Congress and they finally gave in to his demands. Obama could of done the same thing with HCR, but he needed to get it done as soon as he took office instead of putting off for so long. HCR should of been the first problem that Congress tackled, and Obama should of automatically put them on the defense when it came to the public option.

This would also work with the tax breaks. If Republicans get their way, and the bill ends up with tax cuts for those over $250,000.00, then he needs to veto it. Republicans aren't going to be seen as the party that denied tax-cuts to 98% of Americans just to prove a point. They'll get the bill back and change the language to give Obama what he wants. In the long run he will also show a reduction in the deficit.
