3. Yes, he did and last week I was defending Jon
to the nth degree and now after listening to Maher's rant I'm re-thinking the whole thing. Both have made valid points. Jon may have stepped over the line saying KO was equivalent to Beck, but that maybe because of the way he phrased it, 'one is almost ready to play with his poop.'

Need to take a step back and re-evaluate both arguments. It's a good thing - I think, reflection.

13. No, not for one second do I think KO ever said anything
he didn't believe to be the truth, I'd bet if he had a doubt he'd research it himself before being used as a pawn.

Maybe Jon was referring to Keith's exuberance and style when he gets something caught in his craw. Keith is very animated when he's pissed off about something. Which is of course, one of the reasons I love him.

I'm hoping that both Jon and KO can shake and be friends. They both inform, educate and make me laugh. That's a good thing.

6. It was a moving and well thought out criticism tempered with affection
It went to a lot of important points that needed to be made about not giving the unwashed more than the due they deserve which is minimal. Our leaning over backwards to extend fairness is silly when we don't have a hint of it coming our way, and certainly not in the interest of any progress.

I was riveted and nodding my head and stifling tears.
Bill hit it out of the park.

8. Suddenly this last week Stewart seems to be moving toward the
right & distancing himself from the left. Makes one wonder if there is some sort of "deal" afoot.

24. I wonder too
What are we to make of the fact that in his interview with Pres. Obama, Stewart managed to ask some tough questions, but when Condi Rice came on a few days prior, he kissed her ass? It was literally sickening to watch.

The Stewart devotees on this site are worse than the Obama nuts. I love Stewart and the Daily show but he has increasingly been using this whole false comparison between the right and left lately. I am getting sick of it.

4. I agree that Bill made some good points...
There is no moral equivalency between Martin Luther King giving a speech on the national mall and those sheriffs and deputies in the South that would swing their chains and batons and "sic" their guard dogs on innocents. John and Stephen were wrong to try and create a moral equivalency where there was none. Good comments by Bill Maher.

10. My husband & I watched the rally together on tv & we were both enthusiastic
& laughing at the jokes -- enjoying it immensely.

When Keith (whom my husband watches with me every weekday night) was included in that montage with Fixed News, my husband gave me a WTF comment; I was annoyed.

Maybe Jon's sense of comedy crossed the line a bit in regards to Keith. Just wondering if he wrote all his own material for the Rally.

15. I'm a big fan of Stewart and Colbert...but Bill Maher was completely right
As Paul Newman said, "If you don't have enemies, you don't have character".

And JFK's favorite quote paraphrased Dante:

"The hottest places in Hell are reserved for those who in time of moral crisis preserve their neutrality."

I like the idea of standing up for sanity and I like the idea of not having irrational fears.

But sanity requires a respect and desire for truth and it's completely rational to be scared of things that have no respect for truth or sanity.

Which is where I thought the rally, though fun, and useful to a point --that's where it fell short of its promise.

30. I agree with you except for a caveat regarding this line:
"But sanity requires a respect and desire for truth and it's completely rational to be scared of things that have no respect for truth or sanity."

And the caveat here is that even though it is rational to be scared of legitimately frightening people, it remains irrational to act out of fear. As long as fear does not dictate our actions, we - for all our many faults - remain different from the Republicans.

39. I've been thinking about this.
If a fear is rational, it is rational to react, but...

let us suppose you are afraid of a dangerous animal which is chasing you. You run inside a house; is this acting out of fear or reason? It's entirely reasonable to escape danger; one is not acting out of fear in this case.

I would suggest you cannot name an example where it is wise to act out of fear. I think people make a mistake when they assume emotions are irrational; instead, they are neither irrational nor rational but different. One must use emotions in a complementary way with reason, and not ignore either.

Do you see what I mean?

...he's fairly respectful to the other side.

Back in the Politically Incorrect days he'd just tell people they were fucking retarded.

Didn't feel like watching the whole show since it's not particularly coherent most of the time (it's just a notch above the old Crossfire).
