Oklahoma voters may have accidentally outlawed the 10 Commandments?
It looks like voters in Oklahoma just ratified the law of unintended consequences.

Lawmakers in the Sooner State put a constitutional amendment banning the application of Islamic law by Oklahoma courts on the ballot for Tuesday's election.

But the amendment, which also banned the use of international law in judicial decision-making, might force Oklahoma judges to ignore all laws that were conceived on foreign soil, including the 10 Commandments.

"I would like to see Oklahoma politicians explain if this means that the courts can no longer consider the Ten Commandments. Isn't that a precept of another culture and another nation?" said a University of Oklahoma law professor. "The result of this is that judges aren't going to know when and how they can look at sources of American law that were international law in origin. Many of us who understand the law are scratching our heads this morning, laughing so we don't cry."

The measure was overwhelmingly approved, despite months of resistance from legal experts who argued that it blatantly violates the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment and, oh yeah, sharia law has never once been applied by an Oklahoma judge.

The amendment's principal author argued that the state needed to make a "pre-emptive strike" against the dangers of Islamic theocracy.

outlawed the 10 Commandments. Hell, Oklahoma wasn't even a gleam in Moses' eye when those LAWS were carved in stone.

HA!

"Some thought the Bill of Rights was unnecessary way back in Constitution times claiming that those rights were apparent to everyone but a moron. They wrote the bill of rights to show us morons how to clarify the obvious with an amendment (Bill of Rights - first ten amendments)".

9. it's a stupid thing to ask voters for anyway........
outlawing sharia law, I mean. I live in Oklahoma and have lived here most of my life but I'm really starting to get fed up with all of the stupid people here!!

A few weeks ago I had a flat tire and when I was at the tire store getting it fixed, I decided to read a newspaper they had around there. Not much else I could do, so I'm reading this paper which was from Oklahoma City and I saw an article about international law begin interpreted as sharia law. And I thought, I can't believe they even published this piece of crap! Since when does such a ridiculous thing even warrant an opinion? Logical or otherwise.....

Having said that, the 10 commandments are not the basis of any laws (only 2 that I can recall). But if this is the case, they might want to rethink having people swear on a bible before testifying.

Stupid Oklahomans.......there are many of them here! Now you know why we're largely a red state.....

13. I was stationed in Oklahoma for 5 years - yes the people are strange
So many somkers, so many people with bad teeth. Their social system was horrible.

We were on the board of the Catholic church St Vincent de Paul society and let me tell you. I do not remember ever personally helping a Hispanic family. Maybe 2 black families, but the rest were white.

I was shocked at what passed for Section 8 housing. Homes with broken windows, no source of heat etc.

We'd pay utility bills, medication, food, bus tickets, clothes. It was shocking how poor they were.

What else was shocking was how trashy their high school was. Yes they had plenty of people with money, but probably didn't want to pay taxes so they sent their kids to this falling down school. Dreary - no landscaping - dirt all over the place. "Bad" schools on the west side of San Antonio looked better.

Of course when they saw my hubby and I (2 hispanics) walk in their door, some gave us the side eye.

So reasonable and such nice facilities. The people from our church were very friendly and welcoming. I haven't stepped foot in another Catholic church since I left OK.

45. We have great Vets here too.
From what I understand NC has a top notch Vet College, they come young and stay. There's a Vet on every corner and they are sustained because here in Wake Country hardly anyone has 1 dog or cat (shhh, don't tell the catpeople, they're all crazy and have tons of cats

In my neighborhood alone there are more 2 dog owners than 1. We love our fur babies.

Haven't attended Catholic church since St. Francis stopped by for morning coffee. Not a fan of organized religion -and of them. St. Vincent De Paul does have a good reputation as far as helping the poor.

15. Which was first? The Ten Commandments or Code of Hammurabi?
The Exodus with Moses was about 1250 BC.

The Code of Hammurabi was about 1760 BC.

Why did "God" wait over 500 years before announcing his commandments and the laws that follow those commandments in the Bible? For that matter why did god wait more than 3000 years before announcing his laws?

It seems more likely that Moses or their priests replicated laws that they had grown accustomed to in the lands that they had previously occupied.

17. Yes, we're just that stupid.
And to top it off, I just read this morning that our only Democratic representative in Washington, stupid, STUPID Dan Boren, will not support Nancy Pelosi in her bid to become Minority Leader.

The STOOPID, it burns with this one...he had D's all over the state helping him get elected years ago, and then he turned his back on them all the minute the race was called. As far as I'm concerned, he's just another REPUKE. :puke:

Hey, Dan, why don't you just change your party affiliation and get it over with? You're the perfect example of a DINO. :grr:

Being liberal in Oklahoma sucks--you might as well have the Plague.... :grr: :banghead: :puke:

I think it would be hard for most people to believe, but this state was extremely socialist at the turn of the 20th Century. My grandfather was even a member of the Socialist Party for a brief time. We're a long, long way from that now....

19. The whole thing is lame
why would they need a ban on sharia law? Aren't their laws made by their state legislature? What is the danger of that legislature passing anything in sharia law that is not consistent with US law? Even if they did, it would violate the US constitution and maybe even the Oklahoma constitution.

the whole thing is just an expression of racism.

"There was, in Auschwitz, I think it was Auschwitz, it was at least a prisoner of war camp, where the Catholic Church owned some property and they were going to build a church there. They had every right to do it but the"

She isn't dead sure about Auschwitz? She really is uninformed. There was at least a POW camps there? Man, that's astounding ignorance.

"Angle, a Southern Baptist, has called herself a faith-based politician. Among her positions, she opposes abortion in all circumstances, including rape and incest and doesn't believe the Constitution requires the separation of church and state."

Now that's hilarious. If it doesn't, then sharia law is allowed wherever a community might want it.

37. I am beginning to like some parts of sharia law
For example,
I could boss my wife around as much I want!
And she would have to walk 4 steps behind me!
And she would have to wear Burqa in public so she
won't need to spend money on make up and hairdo's.
And she can't go shopping for hours because she won't
be allowed to go in public without me! And my shopping
is usually done in 15 minutes hahaha.
