Wash. Times: "Like a substance abuser," Obama must "admit he has...addiction to government solutions

Wash. Times: "Like a substance abuser," Obama must "admit he has a problem with his addiction to government solutions"

by Media Matters staff

In a November 5 editorial, The Washington Times compared President Obama to a "substance abuser," writing: "Like a substance abuser, the president must first admit he has a problem with his addiction to government solutions to all of the world's problems before he can start on the road to recovery."

The Times also joined other right-wing media outlets in falsely suggesting that Obama told Republicans to go "to the back of the bus." In fact, Obama made the analogy that Republican politicians should have to ride "in the back seat" after driving "this car," the United States, "into the ditch."

From the Times editorial:

The problem is both the messenger and the message. The Democrats' policies have failed to address the concerns of the American people. They have brought the country gargantuan new debt, a weakened dollar, precious few new jobs, more expensive health care and government intrusion into every area of life. Like a substance abuser, the president must first admit he has a problem with his addiction to government solutions to all of the world's problems before he can start on the road to recovery. He will have to climb down from his ivory tower and begin working with those who have principled disagreements with his state-centered view of the universe. He no longer can flippantly banish Republicans to the back of the bus or throw dissenters under the bus.

1. What kind of readership does the Rev Moon's paper have?
Just curious.

2. far right
The kind who misinterpret and misstate everything.

If the president said 'the sky is blue today' the Washington Times would say he 'was advocating for an all blue nation, a cheap shot at republican voters'.

4. Is the WASHINGTON TIMES actually a newspaper?
Isn't it rather some sort of disease?

5. The bankers have an addiction to stealing investors money and
the good old boys club have a addiction to giving their corporate masters nobid contracts. No one seems to mention this when an article like this is crapped out.

6. Don't worry, the Compromise Express is coming
Obama apparently views these types of lunatics armed with hyperbole as sane. Which is sad, because they are insane fanatics who repeat nonsense.

Mr. President, let me tell you something about these people:

1) They want you out of office regardless of your policies.
2) They want you humiliated because they hate you on a personal level.
3) They will never compromise with you regardless of the issue, even if it meant saving lives.

The Washington Times is the mouthpiece of the right.

7. Maybe, but
first can you explain what compromise on legislation has to do with the OP?

"Obama apparently views these types of lunatics armed with hyperbole as sane."

No, that's not apparent.

9. Because the Washington Times is blatantly slandering him
Edited on Sat Nov-06-10 06:47 PM by LittleBlue
and they are an iconic part of the establishment right. They are an arm of the GOP as much as Limbaugh.

The Times has come out 2 days after Obama talks of compromise and slanders him. This should prove once and for all that the right is not interested in compromise. "Substance abuser" is clearly racist rhetoric approved of by the GOP.

8. Oh for gods sakes...like they don't realize every freaking thing is guaranteed and is dependent on
The federal Government? Tell the Fed to get out of the picture and drop FDIC insurance and see how long this system holds up.

10. The rich are the ones who are addicted. They are in denial (climate change) and
mess up the lives of others (derivatives) and don't take responsibility for things (regulations & taxes). The rich are addicted to the cycle of booms and busts where they make alot of money or during the busts live off their considerable savings. They fund the gop (enablers) to control the base (victims). They are sick, sick, sick!
