Message to the Tea Party - What took you so long to get angry?

snip//

You didn't get mad when the Supreme Court stopped a legal recount and appointed a President.

You didn't get mad when Cheney allowed Energy company officials to dictate Energy policy and push us to invade Iraq .

You didn't get mad when a covert CIA operative got outed.

You didn't get mad when the Patriot Act got passed.

You didn't get mad when we illegally invaded a country that posed no threat to us. You didn't get mad when we spent over 800 billion (and counting) on said illegal war.

You didn't get mad when Bush borrowed more money from foreign sources than the previous 42 Presidents combined.

You didn't get mad when over 10 billion dollars in cash just disappeared in Iraq .

You didn't get mad when you found out we were torturing people.

You didn't get mad when Bush embraced trade and outsourcing policies that shipped 6 million American jobs out of the country.

You didn't get mad when the government was illegally wiretapping Americans.

You didn't get mad when we didn't catch Bin Laden.

You didn't get mad when Bush rang up 10 trillion dollars in combined budget and current account deficits.

You didn't get mad when you saw the horrible conditions at Walter Reed.

You didn't get mad when we let a major US city, New Orleans drown.

You didn't get mad when we gave people who had more money than they could spend, the filthy rich, over a trillion dollars in taxbreaks. You didn't get mad with the worst 8 years of job creations in several decades.

You didn't get mad when over 200,000 US Citizens lost their lives because they had no health insurance.

You didn't get mad when lack of oversight and regulations from the Bush Administration caused US Citizens to lose 12 trillion dollars in investments, retirement, and home values.

No.....You finally got mad

When a black man was elected President and decided that people in America deserved the right to see a doctor if they are sick.

Yes, illegal wars, lies, corruption, torture, job losses by the millions, stealing your tax dollars to make the rich richer, and the worst economic disaster since 1929 are all okay with you, but helping fellow Americans who are sick...Oh, Hell No!!

7. Yeah, and remember when Dean supporters were tarred as "angry insurgents"?
Most of us were motivated to join the grassroots movement in response to many of the atrocities on this list, yet we were attacked as irrational nutjobs in the media.

The anger of atroturf Tea Baggers, though, truly is irrational (read their signs, listen to their speeches), yet they're taken seriously by much of the media and have even influenced the political system.

And people wonder why I'm so cynical about American politics?

About a year ago. I posted it and the DUer was upset that he wasn't given credit. Sorry I don't remember the screen name. But I have seen it all over the Internet in the last few weeks. Too bad the author isn't being paid for it. LOL

It's gone viral more than once. I got mad once awhile ago and ended up apologizing to a DU'er for not giving me credit but that poster had no idea it was mine either... The piece has been on Facebook and in e-mails, it was on Rosie O'Donnell's website for awhile, Thom Hartmann and Ed Shultz both read it on the air. Can't really ask for much more.

it as I do, have several times attributed this piece to you, a couple of times right here on DU. It's a classic now.

I can't tell you how proud this makes me of you as a fellow DUer and of the quality of the discourse, the knowledge, and the ability to create insightful and thought-provoking writings and essays by a great many of our community. When you have so many great people all in one place talking about the issues of the day, you're bound to produce excellence like You didn't get mad when....

22. And there's Medicare part D
The prescription drug benefit. They didn't get mad when a newly mandated federal entitlement program was added, 100% deficit "funded". The bill drafted by insurance lobbyists and subsequently ramrodded through Congress with disregard for House rules, courtesy of Speaker DeLay who threatened members of his caucus with retaliation if they didn't vote for his right-wing travesty of a bill. And worse yet, the bill specifically prhiobited the U.S. gov't from negotiating lower prescription drug prices, a gift to Big Pharma that further increased the deficit and also necessitated a "donut hole" for seniors to pick up the slack in costs. None of that stuff made them mad either.

26. Of course they didn't get mad, because...
... they did not, as one might presume, "know" or "find out about" these things because such issues received little to no coverage in the MSM, or because their favorite talking radioheads dismissed such issues as lies or liberal smokescreens.

Facts have a well-known liberal bias... so Republican-leaning voters get told that facts are not facts.

27. Simple-minds
This is all too typical for the teabaggers, they willingly allow themselves to get worked up and sent into a foaming rage over nothing by people who use them and their unfocused anger to make money. But the things they really should be angry about they are incapable of recognizing as bad. Then they get upset when we rightly point out to them that they are ignorant.
They assume that the rest of the whole world, which they apparently view as apart from themselves, hates America because it doesn't praise us for every little thing we do, and they are confused as to how some of our actions could be remotely looked at as evil.
Their world-view is entirely black and white, good guys and bad guys where we are always good no matter what (the ends justify the means), their world view is nothing but winners and losers, and if they are ever on the losing team then that means that evil has won somehow because they cannot view anything they do as bad or even evil.

31. K&R to Powers of Ten
Now ... who will tell the people? Who will beat this drum over and over and over, as the Repugs do, but with more grace and intelligence, to point this out?

The Tea Party is tone deaf, so there's no point in holding *their* feet to the fire, but we need Olbermann, Michael Moore, anyone with a voice, to keep saying this every day until the next election, and well beyond. That's if we get Keith back!

And the tone of this post is just right. No kow-towing to the "cuteness" and "humor" of these illiterate mobs. Smugness will last only so long. And when *they* are sick, or their loved ones need help, they can just call on their good "Christian" friends to pass the hat for by-pass surgery. Can't expect the government to get involved!

Right now I'm thinking of George Carlin's seven words you can't say on television!

ever since I first heard of this so-called "Tea Party". Thanks for sharing Babylon Sis! We now need to share this article with the DNC and make sure it's gets into the daily Democratic "Talking Points" memo.

Also, has anybody here ever wondered why they all seem to get so worked up about spending money HERE in OUR country on OUR people, OUR schools, OUR infrastructure, particularly when all of that spending combined only ends up being a pale fraction (and a VERY pale one at that) of what the Pentagon spends in a given DAY?! It confuses the hell out of me! :banghead:

far fewer knew it was authored by Reinhold Niebuhr (from a sermon given in the early 1940's.)

Niebuhr was my father's prof at seminary, and my father often had to correct people when they said it was by "anonymous"

Otherwise, their stupid "movement" would've been around as soon as Bush started the war in Iraq. They're just using those things as an excuse to go against Obama. I think the only reason why they're protesting and are so "angry" is because Obama's black. They don't want to admit that they're all just a bunch of racist, mentally-challenged idiots. The sooner that we can end this pathetic excuse for a movement, the sooner this nation will be back to economic prosperity.

Angry at US for speaking out against it. Calling us "traitors" because we thought those actions were bad ideas. They angrily called it "treason" to criticize the president's policies because "we have troops in harm's way". They told us we hated our country, and we should leave if we don't like any of those things on your list.

They were asshole sheep then, and they're asshole sheep now. :grr::mad:

64. They get mad when a Democrat gets elected to the White House.
I don't even think it's much to do with race. They went through the same kind of derangement with Clinton. If it seems worse now than it did then it's only because they're that much more whacko.

81. Let's not kid ourselves.
Just because they trashed Clinton doesn't mean they can't be racist. Think about why they hate dems so much. I have teabaggers in my family who hate democrats for many reasons, but one of those reasons is because they see them as sellouts who cater to "lazy and criminal minorities" in favor of whites. I've never heard white guilt thrown around as much as I did after the election. The comments, signs and insults we have seen them make would tell anyone that race has something to do with it. Maybe not for all of them, but for a good damn portion of them.

65. K&R Easier for them to blame foreigners
than to suspect what they considered Americans. If they could be made to see that these corporate entities are actually more foreign than American, then perhaps some of them can finally awaken to who is the real domestic threat...who knows.

I've wondered why the teabaggers are SO-O-0 angry NOW....thanks for the 'timeline' so to speak. Teabaggers will never be accused of over thinking a problem, situation, etc.

71. There's an unfortunate corollary here
Some Dems;
stopped being mad about Iraq as soon as Obama was elected
stopped being mad about Afghanistan as soon as Obama was elected
stopped being mad about Guantanamo as soon as Obama was elected
stopped being mad about CIA 'black' prisons as soon as Obama was elected
stopped being mad about torture as soon as Obama was elected
stopped being mad about warrantless spying on US citizens as soon as Obama was elected
stopped being mad about insurance companies running your 'health system' as soon as Obama was elected
stopped being mad about the 'war on terror' as soon as Obama was elected

Remember Rumsfeld saying they were going to look into that because it was just gone? No idea where it went?

Yeah red flags, big time.
