Speaker Nancy Pelosi's aim to remain the leader of House Democrats is an indication the party is ready to go to war with Republicans in the next Congress, not cut deals across the aisle.

The California Democrat is a radioactive figure in many districts across the country, where Republicans parlayed her unpopularity to pick up seats in Tuesday's landslide elections. But she's also a master at energizing the Democratic base, and her liberal resolve, some Democrats say, will draw much sharper distinctions between the two parties than that of more conservative members who might otherwise assume the leadership spot.

"The lesson {of the elections} is not to back down from a fight," Rep. Steve Israel (D-N.Y.) said in a statement. "The lesson learned is we need to fight harder for real, fundamental change for the middle-class. And no one fights harder than Nancy Pelosi."

Put another way: "She's in a better position to throw the bombs back at Republicans," a former House Democratic aide said tersely. "I mean, who's the better person to make John Boehner look crazy? It's Pelosi."

7. I agree that Nancy and the House aren't ready to give away deals, but they have

been the only arena of the three where that's the case, and was throughout the past two years. Both WH and Senate seem to behave more like puppies to the Repubs. I don't see this as an indication that "Democrats" in general, but more specifically "Democrats in the House" intend to fight.

As we have seen, Nancy Pelosi ran the most productive House in decades. There sit 400 bills passed and sent to the senate, along with all that were passed. The repubs didn't like her yesterday and they won't like her tomorrow...let them work in fear of the woman they beat up but came back to haunt them.

17. It's nice to see that Pelosi will be fighting against the Republican criminals

now that she's squandered the power to do so.

Of course once the Republicans take control of the House, and she decides to grow a set of balls and a spine, it will be like smoke and mirrors in the grand illusion. But let's white wash the reality and ill effects of her bipartisan complicity to the predator class agenda of making the will of the people powerless and ineffective; to that end she has been a real hero. But, IMHO, she is no more a friend to liberal/progressive values or justice than is the BFEE of whom she let walk scot-free.

And when and if she becomes the minority leader, I'm sure she will put on a great show of empty rhetoric and esthetic grandstanding; something the bought and paid for corporately owned conservative biased politicians do in order to preserve the illusion of two parties, which is more like one arm beating up on the other so as the stupid sheep never see the beast that the two arms are connected too.

claiming a triumph on abortion HCR law thanks to their input? And the on again off again public option? And the impeachment is off the table?

Pelosi and Reid have not been good for dems nationwide. Good for centrists, maybe helpful at a local level, but terrible for dems on national setting.

LOL! I have this vision of one ugly beast with a puppet on each hand arguing with himself over some wedge issues, distracting us long enough so that Wall Street can walk out of the bank vault with all the cash :-)

But at least the Catholic Church got to help write our wonderful health care law. A courtesy not afforded to liberals.

She nibbled around the edges, but on matters of serious principals of justice and fairness, she let us down.

This mixing of religion and legislation is more than troubling. I don't give a rat's ass about the catholic church's input to health legislation. It is why we have no laws respecting an establishment of religion.

29. I don't view Nancy as a skull cracker either. But I do see her as persuasive .......

and persuasive doesn't work against Boehner. Franks on the other hand is not afraid to step into the fray and sling some mud. Boehner would have a stroke if Franks stood up after Boehner introduced him and Franks said "Thank you speaker Boner."

Bohener would probably reply: "It's bay-nur".

In which Franks would respond: "Not from where I'm standing".
