2. Estate Tax
Obama should be hammering home that the estate tax cut is set to expire, and the cut should go to the dustbin of history.

Cuz I guaran-damn-tee you that estate tax cuts will be extended. If not in the lame-duck session, then immediately, and retroactively, after the Repukes take control of the House.

8. It is malpractice
Politically, it is malpractice not to be hammering this home now - to drive home why we don't need to extend all of the Bush tax cuts (assuming that is Obama's position). It exposes the right for what it is.

DailyKos should have a petition on this and should be calling on members of Congress to oppose it. If we don't fight, they'll roll us every time.

6. The Fed printing money DWARFS the tax cuts for the rich.
Edited on Sun Nov-07-10 12:10 PM by Gregorian
It is the biggest "tax" in the history of the country. We'll see immediate $4/gallon gas. And it will lead to war with China, if nothing more than a financial war.

I think we need to focus on what is the most important issue we face as a country. Our dependency on keeping a huge war machine, for one.

7. Frankly, the NYT editorial had a good suggestion
temporarily extend the middle class tax cuts

It's fulfills the President's promise for at least two years, allowing the tax cuts for the rich to expire and putting Republicans on the spot about the deficit.

10. Political strategy flawed
i'm thinking he maybe should have taken the tax issue off the
table completely by extending it pre election. We could've
made it a 2012 issue when the economy will be better and you
can appeal to reason not so much emotion.

That's exactly what the R's will do now. So we get the same
outcome just the Republicans now get credit for it. Very
questionable political strategy imho.

17. Can someone please tell him?
I don't think he is hearing this viewpoint? Or perhaps he doesn't want to hear it? But Obama needs to show leadership on this issue. Not pass it off to the House or Senate.
