republicans make terrible drivers. but they make worse passengers.

even before the "they drove us into a ditch" mathaphor, i've been using the "bad passengers" metaphor.

the fact is, they are absolutely terrible in the driver's seat. that we can all agree on. the shrub years were such a relentless series of disasters that the country decided to overcome its bigotry and take a chance on a black guy for the first time ever, rather than give four more years to shrub's party!

frankly democrats make better presidents and statesmen and leaders than republicans. not by image, necessarily, but by deed and action.

but the republicans' real selling point, and why the country keeps putting them back in the driver's seat, is that they make far worse passengers than democrats do. when democrats are passenger, we are, for the most part, cordial and patient. we voice our position, get mildly grumpy when we don't get our way, and pointlessly shake our fists and say, "we'll accept your bad laws and reverse them if and when we ever get enough electoral victories".

republicans, on the other hand, gather all their resources, no matter how minimal, and use ever power and trick in the book to disrupt the democrats' driving. they try to grab the steering wheel. they blast the radio. they crank the heater and blow it into our eyes. they give us wrong directions. they kick and they scream. they throw roadblocks in front of the car. they do everything they can from the passenger seat to cause a crash and blame the driver.


america sees this and says, this situation with the democrats in the driver's seat and the republicans in the passenger seat is terrible and leads to disaster. so they keep thinking that it's better the other way around. it's more peaceful because democrats behave themselves. it's in FACT a greater disaster, because republicans head straight for the cliff, it seems more serene getting there.



democrats already know how to be better drivers. we need to learn how to be less docile as passengers and to teach republicans pointed lessons when they misbehave as passengers.

1. Drive 'em out to some rural county where their base lives, and leave 'em there.

That'll put the fear of Dog into them.

2. It's a shame the rumble seat went out of vogue. We wouldn't have to listen to

them, and I think a few models were even rear-facing, which would at least have the Republicans facing in the direction they'd like to go.
