Obama will run and win in 2012. So you better get used to the idea.
It will become more and more clear by mid-2011. Pres. Obama might be the only sane politician we have left at the national level. When Republicans are complaining and throwing temper tantrums, Pres. Obama will be there to remind America who has the steady hand.

American can elect the loons to the House and Senate. They can elect 'em to the Board of Education and City Council - but they rarely elect them as presidents. Even Pres. Bush didn't act like completely and utterly insane. Even if he was.

But the Republican Party has been hijacked by this growing mindset of hate and conspiracy and worse of all, paranoia that is going to create a backlash with many, many voters at the national level.

In the end, Pres. Obama will succeed where Republicans fail - at convincing the American people he's actually on their side.

3. He can win if he really is on the side of middle-class Americans...
...and stands up for policies that make them and the country stronger. If he keeps on capitulating to the right, he won't have a prayer.

7. Silly knee-jerk response to what I said...
The prez was elected to move the country toward progressive policies and punished for his capitulation - he can't continue in the same way if he wants to win in 2012.

6. It's the same old crap
and they'd rather ignore the reality.

This was a loss, but Republicans are not in the same position as Dems were in 2006 and 2008. Their entire game plan is to try, try to repeal stuff or destroy the economy. Losers!

8. We have to start now to tie a successful Obama to a Democratic Congress.
We need him to win in 2012 and we need Congress back to help him reach his full potential.

'Kids, when you re-elect Obama, you need to get his back with the other Democrats on the ballot.'

We need to hammer this home.

10. The most important two years of the Pres term are behind him and he did a horrible job of "convincin
g the American people he's actually on their side." He in fact lost ground. So tell me what he can do different? Buy a network? Now that might work. In two years CorpAmerica will have choked off the internet to the left.

Pres. Obama has a steady approval rating that is remarkably good compared to two of the last three presidents who saw reelection (Clinton and Reagan). Obama has clout. Obama has support. Democrats? Not so much. That was lost in the midterm - but as I said then, that was not an indictment on Pres. Obama.

Find me a national Republican who can match Pres. Obama's popularity and approval.

You can't.

So I don't agree with your premise at all.

15. The idea that he lost ground,
is ludicrous, his approval ratings are not unlike most Presidents who have won re-election.
This was not a referendum on him, but on Congress.

17. In the last two years he could get hardly anything thru the Senate. Now he lost the HOR.
I call that losing ground. His popularity at this point is not the issue. If he doesnt get results in the next two years, he will have a tough fight.

18. Well, why couldn't "he get hardly anything thru the Senate"?
Did we have an overwhelming majority of Democrats, let alone Progressives/Liberals?
We barely had a majority, and when you breakdown the majority, it's no wonder.

vote with Dems?

As far as Clinton goes, how many Blue Dogs were there?
If the complaint is get more Progressive legislations through, then we better have a bigger majority that will cover the Blue Dogs.

35. Its a silly comparison anyway. Obama has done bigger things in his first 2 years than either Bush...
...or Clinton managed to do during eithers respective Presidencies. Obama beat them, all ready. That still doesn't change the fact that you are right though, the Senate was never progressive enough to make all of it happen. Thats just facts, doesn't matter who was President.

16. The president said himself that his admin did a poor job of selling themselves.
But in spite of his popularity he didnt help many fellow Democrats win reelection. And his popularity wasnt a target this year. CorpAmerica will have unlimited funds to spend tearing him down in the next two years.

And the Repub's in the House will completely stymie all legislation to help the economy.

imho the economy will be worse in 2012 and the Republicans will be stronger.

"And the Repub's in the House will completely stymie all legislation to help the economy.

imho the economy will be worse in 2012 and the Republicans will be stronger."

There is a disconnect in those two statements. You think they will stymie all legislation to help the economy, but yet you feel they will be stronger in 2012. If this election was about the economy, which so many have said it is, this will have them limping to 2012.

30. The media will blame the economy on the president as they have so far.
The Republicans will say in 2012 that it is the Admin fault and the Democrats in Congress for not fixing the economy and the American people will buy it.

Most Democrats think that anyway and the indies are fickle. 2 years of Boner at the helm of the House will not be pretty for the pubs. The indies will trek back over the left line and vote for him....the nuts will have chased them away.

Edited on Sun Nov-07-10 03:56 PM by Politics_Guy25
It will take a as yet unforseen event to deny President Obama re-election.

Having the opposition party control the upper chamber makes this even more likely. Voters are hesitant to give one party the keys to all 3 branches of government which would be what happened if they elected a GOPer in 2012.

I think he runs and I think he wins. I think the economy will improve enough. He's def. running, though. If he doesn't run, no way the DEMS hold on to the White House. It will be seen as a "breaking up" of the Democratic party.

37. As long as Republicans hold some of the Congress, Obama is irrelevant.
Hell, unless one is part of the Upper Middle Class, or the Upper Class... Obama's irrelevant no matter what.

Your theory that "the Republican Party has been hijacked by this growing mindset of hate and conspiracy ..." is all well and nice... but when Democrats only defend the interests of those who make $80K+ from those who make $500K+... how many people really care? The growing mindset of hate and conspiracy seems to be aimed at the "new up and coming wealthy"... specifically the paranoid possibility of a wave of brown folks taking the opportunities that the Republicans use to make $500K+... and that choke point is a battleground now...

But, I see no sign that either party gives a goddamn about anyone else.

Do yourself a favor Drunkf^#k... hold off on your activism until you score a professorship paying $80K+... until then you're really fighting against your own interests when you fight for the likes of Obama...

39. I have read too many incorrect predictions at DU lately...
such as predictions that there is no way that the GOP would take control of the House. And we know how that turned out. So I am wary of any more DU predictions. I would rate Obama as a favorite in 2012, but anyone who thinks they know for a certainty that he will be reelected in 2012 is fooling him or herself. Too much can happen between now and then.

42. I think that 2012 will be the new 1984.
I predict that the economy will recover substantially between now and the next election, which will result in Obama having a landslide victory. The republicans will probably pick Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, Tim Pawlenty, or (sadly) Sarah Palin. But regardless of who will be the Republican candidate, the GOP will be crushed. I see Obama getting at least 55% of the vote.
