Just to clarify this is completely anecdotal and from one family only (mine). But I'd like to share.

Two weeks ago, I was discussing politics with my conservative republican parents. Point blank, I told them about Romney, and all that jazz. I asked them, "Would you vote for him, since you know, you view Mormonism is a cult?"

Mom: "Never."

Dad: "No."

They then proceeded to fill me in about the congregation of their fundie church, and every single person they talked to in their bible study could not in good faith vote for Romney because of his actions in Massachusetts, let alone the Mormon thing.

I just wanted to throw that out there. It is what it is. I think the republicans are in for some trouble in the nominating process in 2012. They are also not crazy about the fact (which they didn't know about until I told them) that FOX employed all of the other candidates. (They don't watch FOX or any news, really.)

I'm not sure where this is going, but my parents are very much a republican base, based on social issues. Romney is not their answer. In fact, they couldn't name a single person they liked.

My dad thinks Palin is hot, but my mom smacked him on the leg and he changed his story real fast hahahaha, and then said "It'll take more than looks for a nod", to which my mom and I both said "Thank GOD!" LOL.

They don't hate Obama. In fact, they are warming.

I spose he could cinch the election by enacting the Republican agenda. Privatize SS, eliminate Medicare, sign the bill repealing his health insurance reform, nuke Iran, put through an extension of tax cuts for the rich, and shut down the VA. He oughtta be able to win in a walk, with all the Citizens United money behind him.

3. Even people on this site are all "Obama's gonna LOSE 2012", and sorry to say, I'm not seeing it.

Republicans have absolutely NO ace-in-the-hole candidates. They don't. They have no name brands either and only one tattered, tabloid, reality-star brand in Palin. I don't think America is that off-the-charts idiotic to put her in the Oval Office.

You may counter with "well, they put BUSH in TWICE", but Bush had a long-standing name to help him. Corporations aren't as willing to back the Half-baked Alaskan as they were the Failure Fratster. He had a name and he was painted as a Moderate; most of middle America by then had vaguely heard about Bush and his governorship. They only knew he was the son of a Reagan-era VP and President and voted the legacy.

Everyone knows what a total whack-job SarUH Palin is by now; there ain't no hiding that. She's proven herself to be completely unqualified for high office.

The other candidates are Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney; each come with baggage conservatives and fundies really cannot stand. And nominating Jeb Bush will all but guarantee an Obama re-election - people are sick of the damned Bushes.

Like it's been said before - the last Republican that was elected that had neither a Bush or a Nixon on the ticket was Herbert Hoover. Let's keep that streak alive.

just re-run all the republicans who said that a few years in a state legislature followed by two years as a US Senator is not enough of a resume for a Presidential candidate (a position I admit I agreed with).

Now... since he doesn't need to run for reelection in 2012, he might make a dangerous VP nominee (helps them with conservatives, helps them with hispanics, helps them in FL).

It's clear that HCR will continue to be a major issue, and I'm not sure that his spin on the matter (his plan was very similar) gets him through the primaries.

8. That's all nice and stuff but

someone in a swing state like Portman in Ohio will win the nomination. Why would they saddle themselves with the usual line-up of undesirables, not that Portman is a desirable.
