TDS: Gov. Perry
I just watched Texas govenor Perry on the Daily Show. He was defending his stance on a small federal government and talking up his state and how great it is. He was saying alot and I have no idea if he was lying his ass off. Anyone see the interview? If so, was he lying. He must have been because based on what he was saying, Texas is #1 in every category - education, the environment, etc...

1. One thing he said was...
the federal government should stay out of the states' governments...then he said he's asked two different administrations for more federal "boots" on the ground to patrol the Texas borders. Sounds like he wants it both ways. Jon didn't question that so maybe I heard him wrong, but I don't think so.

Texas took the 2nd most amount of stimulus money, 2nd only to California. Perry says that Texas is independent from Washington but takes a hell of alot of stimulus money. He's full of BS!

5. My understanding is that the Democrats in the state legislature MADE him take stimulus funds.
He then, like most Republicans, paraded around the state bragging about how many jobs he brought to the state. He wanted to use stimulus to balance the budget, but was stopped by the legislature. Texas's state budget is in trouble. Big trouble. Worse than California and New York put together.

And yet, people still go out and elect this guy. I just don't get it.

9. They voted to leave in 1861 by a vote of
80 % to 20 % against their governor's advice.

Maybe we shouldn't have spent 600,000 lives to drag them back in.

11. I live in Texas
and when the man is talking he is lying is ass off. He took stimulus money to repair the Governor's mansion that burned down, but Mr. Perry wasn't living in a tent during that time, we forked out over $10,000 a month rent for his sorry as to live in something that most Texans could never afford. We live in a polluted state, both politically, air and water. Almost last in education, higher taxes, and don't let them fool you that we don't pay high taxes even though we don't have a state income tax they gig your ass everywhere else. In April the Texas City refinery emitted into the air over 370,000 pounds of pollutants, 17,000 of them being benzine for over 40 fucking days. Never reported it, because they never checked it. Look at a CDC map of cancer clustering around Texas City, Pasadena and Deer Park Texas and just tell me what you see. I can't wait until I leave this fucking hell hole.
