Jack Cafferty question on Monday: "Isn't it time for Nancy Pelosi to just go away?"
Some people just don't know when to call it quits - and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is looking like one of them.

http://caffertyfile.blogs.cnn.com/2010/11/08/time-for-nancy-pelosi-to-go-away/

Note that the question is not: "Should Nancy Pelosi resign?" or "Should Nancy Pelosi let someone else lead House Democrats?"

7. Cafferty is a dumb ass. Who else is going to be able to instill disipline in the dems?
Instead of worry about what the congressional dems are doing why isn't he asking the obvious question like are the repubs sane or do they have a positive plan for the country? The answer for both questions is no.

9. Framing the corporate narrative - Speaker Pelosi is corporate America's biggest foe
and she should therefore be removed a.s.a.p. - Cafferty, using the credibility his masters carefully and painstakingly cultivated over the years, is now being used to demonize their greatest Democratic foe.

How about, "It's time CNN stop pretending it's 'the trusted name in news', instead?

11. You're right I remember when she voted against HCR because
it was a gift to the Insurance industry. And all the times she voted against the war profiteers was amazing. That she doesn't take any corporate money for re-election is astounding. She is no doubt a pillar of strength against the onslaught of corporatism. :sarcasm: just cause I figured you were so blind to reality.

13. I'm as blind to reality as you are blind to common sense and reason
so I guess we can throw a party for blind people and have a ball! :sarcasm:

Rarely are things as simple as you want to make it seem. But if hate for Democrats is what makes you happy, you're on the WRONG site.

10. Cafferty is correct but for the wrong reason. When Ms. Pelosi
took impeachment off the table she should have been dropped like a hot potato. Her 53% disapproval rating has done nothing to help the Dems in the just held election. But preventing the investigation and prosecution of the Bush Crime Family was unforgivable from my point of view. She blew the perfect opportunity to put a stake in the heart of the neo-cons and possibly stop two wars.

12. Still bitter about that? Jeezus! Talk about being blind ...
She'd just become Speaker of the House with a slim majority in Congress. She's the third one in line for the Presidency. Corporate media was already framing the narrative that she had designs on the WH even before she said a single, fucking word.

Republicans together with America's incorporated "news" media, would've crucified her and the Democrats.

And now you're blaming her for the loss of the House? Unbelievably naive of you.

When will people like you understand, he who holds the bullhorn, gets heard? And the bullhorn just happens to favor Republicans! You can have the best message, the best programs, the best intentions in the world, but if you can't get your message out, you might as well not exist.

Talk radio is 90+ percent rightwing. Fox, CNN, ABC, CBS, weekend political talk shows, ALL of them cater to the Republican Party, and all of them vilify Speaker Pelosi every chance they get.

Thanks for stabbing her in the back, too, fellow Democrat.

14. Pelosi

Well, the question is: Is what happened last week a temper tantrum or does it reflect the sentiments of the electorate I happen to believe that this country is a center-right country, and Pelosi is as far left as it gets. She is a lightning rod that we don't need to be holding onto at the moment. Look, she did great and it was at great cost but now is the time for her to exit stage left. WE need to keep our heads down, rebuilt a narrative and win in 2012. Pelosi needs to zip it!

would know this is true.

The country is NOT "center-right", and Speaker Pelosi is not "as far left as it gets", as another DU member here points out because she took impeachment off the table.

If she were, she would've thrown caution into the wind and gone on ahead with investigations, but with the slim majorities the Democrats held in the Senate, and with too many BlueDawgs ready to protect pResident Bush and VP Cheney, taking impeachment off the table was the smarter thing to do.

She is a Liberal, but also pragmatic, Democrat, and she understands what needs to be done for the good of the Democratic Party, because that's all we Progressives have in this two-party government.

She understands the concept of better to have one bird in hand than two in the bush.

20. Shows how skewed the political spectrum has become in the last forty years.
Pelosi is to the *right* of *Nixon* for God's sake!

Another ten years like the last thirty in this country and most of the politicians will be to the right of Tom Tancredo!

Whether you like her or not, it would be stupid to let her go. Look at all the legislation she got passed.

btw, this country is a left country.

she betrayed everyone here on DU and all Dems by taking even INVESTIGATION of the Bush Crime Family off the table. If pointing out the truth is stabbing her in the back I'm getting the biggest knife I can find.

16. After watching the 2010 elections you can still make this claim?
Edited on Tue Nov-09-10 10:46 AM by ProSense
In 2006, Pelosi had a 233-seat majority, with at least 45 blue dogs. Not a single one of them would have supported impeachment. The Senate was split 51-49. Not a chance in hell that Bush would have been removed from office.

An impeachment on the order of what happened to Clinton wasn't even in the cards.

Also, this is 2010. Pelosi has been the Speaker since 2006. She remained Speaker after the 2008 elections.

See the disconnect?

27. I think you got that backwards. With Dems that give up or
give in before things even get started who needs Rethugs, the Dems will do it for them. Issue after issue this congress and admin have caved time after time and still you believe. Politics is not a religion for me, like it is for a lot of the blind followers here on DU. I don't have any FAITH in this party, they'll have to show me results and so far they haven't.

29. If you don't have any faith in this party, what are you doing at Democratic Underground?
Didn't see the name of this site?

What you perceive as 'caved' is nothing more than counting the votes. If you don't have them, you can't proceed. Period.

Ideologues such as yourself, using a purity test on whatever party, is what's wrong with this country, and it's what's helping Republicons to remain in power. The same ideologues crooned about Al Gore being the same as Bush. Right. Now, after eight years of terror, they're proven wrong.

Wake up. This is a two-party nation, and the sooner you understand that, the quicker we'll get the Democrats act and vote like Democrats. Don't toss the baby out with the bathwater. That's counterproductive, ya'know.

30. Seems to me we have the same goals, a Democratic Party
led return to a progressive state with liberal ideas. What we disagree on is how this is accomplished. We have tried your way we elected DLC Democrats and they turned tail and sold themselves to the rich and corporations. We are headed for fascism and our "leaders" are standing by watching it happen or in the majority of cases, helping the fascists.

I'm sorry if I've upset you, but I registered and voted straight ticket Democrat for over 25 years because I did perceive a difference and still do see some difference today. However the differences are in unimportant issues of God, Guns and Gays where (unimportant except for the issue of civil rights in the case of GLBT) the RW makes no sense what so ever, but is willing to accept complete non-sense as policy. And even there you have Democrats back peddling on DADT.

By the way, I voted for Al Gore, he won that election and was cheated out of it by the SCOTUS, the fact that our Democratic leaders stood by and didn't call their people to stand up to the court is just more proof of my argument, they will rollover and play dead at the first opportunity.

Their actions are complicit in handing over this country to the Corporations.

One last thing, I can see the Name of this site it doesn't say "Democratic Mainstream" or "DLC rank and file" it says we're the UNDERGROUND, one of us must have it wrong.

31. Your post is right, your assumption that I'm DLC is wrong.
I'm a Liberal DEMOCRAT, not a CONservaDem or just a Liberal. I'm more to the left than President Obama, but not so far as DK, and I won't abandon President Obama because, unfortunately, he's as good as we'll get. For now.

As long as the American people refuse to educate themselves and continue to support the disastrous Republicon Party, I can't move more to the left. I'm basically stuck, but I won't espouse things that could discourage others from voting for Democrats.

You're right. We do have the same Democratic goals in mind, but we approach it differently. I'm more of a pragmatist although I cherish and long for a more liberal party. You're more of an ideologue, even purist, but this is not how this stupid country is. Still too many allow themselves to be cuckolded by Totalitarian communists disguised as Republicans {Murdoch} via our incorporated media in their constant attempts to keep this country divided.

A united people, after all, are a dangerous people.

This is why it frustrates me to read posts like yours. Divide and conquer is the strategy of the powers that be, and I refuse to be fooled by them.

That's all.

22. Speaker Pelosi KNOWS HOW TO COUNT.
Good God Almighty, one of the very first things you do before you ever take a vote on any issue, is to line up your support and see where you stand. Then you try to flip the uncommitted ones over to your side.

If you don't have the votes after polling your supporters, you do not proceed, you are wasting your time.

Every single time I see "Pelosi took impeachment off the table, she needs to go!" I think, there's a doofus that doesn't understand political reality and the futility of trying to push through any type of legislation or agenda WHEN YOU ALREADY KNOW YOU'LL NEVER GET THE VOTES TO DO IT.

Pelosi could have left impeachment on the table, and it would have done nothing but waste an enormous amount of time and political capital, as IT WOULD HAVE FAILED.

After it failed, it would have given the Republicans a huge issue to hammer the Democrats with...the last election losses would look like chump change compared to how bad things could have been.

28. This is just one of the main reasons the Dems have taken
such an embarrassing beating over the last few years. No leadership. To fail and try is forgivable to not try is either cowardice or complicity, I vote for complicity. The dems are bought and paid for and the only difference with the rethugs is God, Guns and Gays and that is why we hear so much about those subjects. While the rich continue to destroy the middle class with the help of Democrats.
