39. You're partially correct .......
the proposal is that SS cuts will not take place for those that are 55 and older at the time the bill is signed. The real question is, would Obama sign such a bill?

15. What's sad is the possibility that a Democratic president could.
What's sadder is Democrats defending that.

19. The only people who think it's possible are those who hear voices in their heads.
That's the only explanation. That, my friend, is truly, truly sad.

And have seen nothing at all. And that is deliberate.

Which goes right in hand with the voices you probably hear in your head.

Do they tell you burn things?

38. Are these the same people who warned about .........
tax cut extensions for the top 2% that Obama is now talking about?

Or maybe it was the group that raised the alarm that the PO was about to be traded away.

9. If you need to believe that Obama will cut social security
in order to fortify or justify your dislike for him then go ahead and believe to your heart's content but it isn't going to happen and everyone knows it.

No such thing will ever make it to his desk. Or to the next President's. Or the one after that.

12. If they change the filibuster rules, the Republicans could likely get enough Dem votes to pass it.
If they don't there are likely enough principled Dems left to hold a filibuster until 2012. And Yeah, if it gets to his desk Obama will sign it. AS always it's all up to the Senate.

14. I'm not sure, but probably - he will probably cave to GOP pressure on this and
most everything else they can come up with, and we will be TOTALLY under republican/extremist/fundamentalist control after the election in 2012 when they take the Senate and the White House.

His attempts to get us off of foreign oil. His attempts to make us look toward alternative energy. He was ahead of his time and unlike today's leaders, he lived what he said.

35. That's not a cut. That's an automated thing, based on a formula.
It happens every year...either the formula comes up with a COL, or it doesn't. No one (not Obama, not Congress, not you, and not I) has cut anything.

That is part and parcel of the program. It is written into the SS program. It's automatic.

Edited on Fri Nov-12-10 09:24 PM by sabbat hunter
Do you mean that payments each month to current and future retirees will be lowered? Then no.
Do you mean that retirement age will slowly be raised as per the Co-Chairs draft proposal, then probably
