1. People have said that since the beginning. I think her tummy just...

...looks that way in some clothes. (She's said that Bo is her baby and their son. lol)

On edit: I think there was a thread just today that quotes Michelle saying that.

9. Perhaps she should go in for Lypo, so folks stop asking if this 46 year old woman
is pregnant.

Not that she couldn't be, but she's already said she was through.

Guess that's what happens if you aren't thin like a reed after 2 babies....
guess that's why this society has so many young girl with eating disorders...
cause they know folks are going to look at their bodies and make rude assumptions,
just because you don't look 100% like you came out of a magazine from a picture
that is retouched.

12. I doubt she has any interest in having a baby at age 46, during such
a busy and stressful time inher life. Unlike the quiverfull types, she has the sense to control her own fertility and not leave such things to chance.

Baby was 1 pound, 6 oz. Yikes. Scary.

And I am making no other comment. Except to say I pray things go well for that little baby.

20. Here ya go:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quiverfull

They are the fundie uber-breeders, who eschew all birth control, and work overtime to have as many children as physically possible. They are ultraconservative evangelical christians, ad they usually homeschool so their children don't get exposed to evil people (ie those not just like them).

38. Thank you.
I'm getting really sick of this "Oooooh! Is THAT a "baby bump"?" shit. She has had that same "bump" since at least July. It has not gotten bigger. Hmmmmm.... As a woman in her late 40's, I really do not understand why people wish pregnancy on a woman of her age. Especially one who as already stated that she is done with childbearing. I know several women her age who are grandmothers. Sheesh.

47. They appear such a "young family" in part because their
kids are so young...but that is because they had their kids so late. (If Obama started when I did their oldest would be 30 now)
Also they are in such great shape and he was always called post baby boom (although he is late baby boom) and all of those things...

They just feel younger to people, they don't think of her age

46. Although I agree she's not having a baby, she's 45
and she's only 2 months older than Cherie Blair was when she had her last baby:
Michelle Obama born Jan 17th 1964 => 45 years 11 months now
Cherie Blair born Sept 23rd 1954; Leo Blair born May 20th 2000, so she was 45 years 9 months

48. Many women are having babies in their 40s
Edited on Mon Dec-14-09 12:09 PM by AspenRose
And it wasn't unusual to see this 100 years ago (before donor eggs, IVF and the prevalence of acupuncture for fertility in western culture).

Every woman is different and enter perimenopause/menopause at different times. I don't understand why people are saying "read a biology book" when it really isn't as unusual as people think it is. Genetics, environment and the health (and diet) of the woman are the main factors. My grandmother and great-grandmother were pregnant at the same time; one with her first, the other (in her mid-40s) with her last.

My OB strongly encourages women who don't want to get pregnant to continue birth control, even if they're "in their 40s" or perimenopausal. Because if the 'plumbing' is still there and the cycle is still happening (even irregularly), it can happen....and apparently it happens enough for him to have to constantly give this advice!

That said....Michelle has already said she's done.

She's just got a bit of a belly. Those silly belts she wears right up under the bust-line accentuate it.

39. No. With Two Girls Already, I think they would just adopt
If they wanted any more kids. Maybe they would have if not for the White House. Can you imagine the scrutiny that would be if they even tried to adopt in this climate?

The bump is just all that rich food she's probably been eating lately. Sure, she's an exercise junky, but even 20 miles a day won't walk off all of the calories she's probably had since going to the White House. And with all of the events, it's probably hard to keep track of all you nibble on during a day unless you are supremely disciplined. I sliver of cake here, a cookie there, it all adds.

that she is lovely the way she is, and that people who need an excuse for flesh on a woman's body are part of the reason why perceived body image is such a destructive thing for so many women.
